city news may18 2017 Vernonia City News... At the May 15, 2017 City Council Meeting: Council Approves Agreement on Prop- erty – Council approved acceptance of a property on Rose Avenue that is being transferred to the City from the Creps family. The property is in a wetland and can not be developed. The City will use the property to assist in storm water run- off issues in the area. City Administrator Josette Mitchell was authorized to sign a sale agreement. City Administrator Report – City Administrator Josette Mitchell told the Council the City is requiring an extended warranty from the contractor for an additional 36 months on the DAF at the Wastewater Treatment Plant to ensure the installation of pressure grouting is secure. Mitchell told the Council the architect for the Senior Center/Vernonia Cares project will be delivering plans to Planning, CDBG, and NW Code Pros for approval in about three weeks. Mitchell reported that once approval is received from all agencies the City can start the bid process to find a contractor. Mitchell reported that the City and its legal representative have received no correspondence from the owners of Nickerson Ridge Estates. Mitchell told Council that state authorities have been notified of continuing violations in Bear Creek at Rose Avenue and that those violations have been documented. Mitchell told the Council that construction began on the picnic pavilion at Spencer Park and should be completed around June 30. She also said the cemetery shed that is no longer used has been demolished. Councilor Thanks Mitchell – Councilor Bruce McNair publicly thanked Casey Mitchell for his volunteer work during a three day period of May 13-15 when Mitchell operated heavy equipment during the demolition of the cemetery shed and the beginning of construction for the picnic shelter at Spencer Park. Council Discusses Oversized Ve- hicle Parking – Following their brief regular City Council meeting, the Council met in a workshop to discuss the parking of oversized vehicles and other vehicles on City property. At is- sue was the use of a City owned lot on Rose Avenue. Councilor Mike Seager initiated the discussion, noting that the vehicles, especially vehicles that are for sale, do not make for a good visual entrance into the City and men- tioned mud on the streets resulting from vehicles leaving this lot. City staff suggested blocking access to the lot. Councilor Bruce McNair lobbied for the City to provide an alternative place for oversize vehicles to park. Staff noted that the City needs to cre- ate an ordinance that governs city owned lots and said they would bring back information for the Council to consider at a future Council meet- ing. Council and staff agreed that in- put from the community on the issue should be encouraged and welcomed.
