schools february16 2017 9 VHS Winter Sports Report Girls Basketball – The Lady Loggers fi nished the regular season in second place in the Northwest League with a 13-3 record and a 15-7 record over all. After falling at Gaston 50-43 on February 8, the Lady Loggers received a forfeit win against Delphian, and then rebounded with a 44- 36 win at home over Gaston on February 11. The Lady Loggers closed out the regular season with a 56- 39 home win over Columbia Christian on February 13. Tonight we played six minutes of really good basketball in the fourth quarter, but that was it.” With second place locked up the Lady Loggers will face third place City Christian in the League Playoffs at home on Thursday, February 16 at 6:00 pm. The winner of that League Playoff game will meet fi rst place Faith Bible in the District playoffs on Saturday, February 18 at Forest Grove High School at 5:00 pm. The Loggers fi nished behind Columbia Christian, City Christian, and Knappa in the Northwest League. The Loggers led Columbia Christian 28-26 at half time in their clash on February 13, but couldn’t hold off the Knights in the second half, who are ranked #2 in the state. The Loggers will host fi fth place Nestucca in the Northwest League playoffs on Thursday, February 16 at 7:30 pm. Vernonia defeated Nestucca both times they played this season, 53- 47 and 77-47; Nestucca fi nished their league season with an 8-10 record. If the Loggers lose to Nestucca they are out of the playoffs. If the Loggers win, they will face the loser of the Knappa/Life Christian League Playoff game in the District Playoffs, with the third and fi nal seed in the state playoffs on the line. That game will take place on Saturday, February 18 at 3:30 pm at Forest Grove High School. The Loggers have lost both times they faced Knappa this season, but have defeated Life Christian twice. Knappa lost to Life Christian both times the teams played this season. Wrestling – The big news out of the Logger wrestling program was Lene Jacobsen’s second place fi nish at 132 pounds at the Girls State Tournament on February 4 in Springfi eld.
