VHS Winter Sports Report
Girls Basketball – The
Lady Loggers fi nished
the regular season in
second place in the
Northwest
League
with a 13-3 record and
a 15-7 record over all.
After falling
at Gaston 50-43 on
February 8, the Lady
Loggers received a
forfeit win against
Delphian, and then
rebounded with a 44-
36 win at home over
Gaston on February
11. The Lady Loggers
closed out the regular
season with a 56-
39 home win over
Columbia Christian on
February 13.

in the League Playoffs
at home on Thursday,
February 16 at 6:00

Grove High School at 5:00 pm.
If the Lady Loggers lose to City
Christian, they will play a third
place District Playoff game at 2:00
pm at Forest Grove High School.

The Loggers fi nished behind
Columbia Christian, City Christian, and
Knappa in the Northwest League.
The Loggers led Columbia
Christian 28-26 at half time in their
clash on February 13, but couldn’t hold
off the Knights in the second half, who
are ranked #2 in the state.
The Loggers will host fi fth
place Nestucca in the Northwest League
playoffs on Thursday, February 16 at
7:30 pm. Vernonia defeated Nestucca
both times they played this season, 53-
47 and 77-47; Nestucca fi nished their
league season with an 8-10 record.
If the Loggers lose to Nestucca
they are out of the playoffs. If the
Loggers win, they will face the loser
of the Knappa/Life Christian League
Playoff game in the District Playoffs,
with the third and fi nal seed in the state
playoffs on the line. That game will take
place on Saturday, February 18 at 3:30
pm at Forest Grove High School. The
Loggers have lost both times they faced
Knappa this season, but have defeated
Life Christian twice. Knappa lost to Life
Christian both times the teams played
this season.
Wrestling – The big news out of the
Logger wrestling program was Lene
Jacobsen’s second place fi nish at 132
pounds at the Girls State Tournament on
February 4 in Springfi eld. Jacobsen won
all her matches by fall on her way to the
Boys Basketball – The Loggers
boys fell to fi rst place Columbia
Christian 52-47 at home on
February 13 and will fi nish in fourth
place in the Northwest League regular
