The girls as a team fi nished in th 11 place out of 72 teams in the tourna- continued from page 9 ment, with all the Vernonia girls winning at least one match, including some good wins by Kathy Will, Amanda-Rose Si- card, and Katie Goodman. The entire Loggers wrestling team will be heading to the District Tournament on February 17-18 and has been drilling hard in practice. Head coach Chris Barnes and the Loggers will head to the District Tour- nament with a full roster through 182 pounds. Kahlia Jack- son and Jacob Pasko should do well in a light 106 weight class, as should Eli- jha Bozied and Si- card at 113. Mekhi Williams and Isaiah Bozied look strong at 126, as do Justin Fletcher and Corbin Nelson at 138 and Hepner Forester and Brendyn Mullikin at 145. The Loggers best chances may be at 152 where they have Storm Henson and Josh Rice, who have both wrestled well throughout the season. Nick Bennett will move up to 160 with Chris Lloyd and James Watson will probably be at 182. Barnes had high praise for sever- al wrestlers who continue to show up for practice and workouts even though they most likely will not wrestle at the District Tournament, (the team can only enter two wrestlers in each weight class) men- tioning Kathy Will, Tessa Bomke, Katie Goodman, and Austin Sicard. The top two fi nishers at the District Tournament advance to the State Tournament on February 24-25. “Just Vernonia Girls” Win Basketball Tournament The Just Vernonia Junior High Girls Basketball tournament team, coached by Bob Zavales, Stacy Adams, and Melissa Zavales, won their division at a tournament in Kelso/Longview. The girls are wearing the T-shirts they received for winning.
