I think I speak for all of us when I say we wouldn’t have made it this far without all of you supporting us. When I was talking to Mr. Underwood about speaking at graduation his advice to me was, “You’ve been to graduations before, you know, just keep it short sweet and to the point otherwise people stop listening or fall asleep.” So I’ll do my best to not make any of you fall asleep. When we started at VHS as freshmen most of us had no idea what we wanted to do with our lives and to be honest I think a lot of us still don’t, but over the last 4 years we’ve learned things from our teachers, staff and peers that we couldn’t have learned any other way, and in my opinion some of our favorite things we learned were the ones you never knew you were teaching us. For example: • From Mrs. Willard we learned that laughing is essential to life and it doesn’t matter how loud you do it, if you think something’s funny, laugh. • From Mr. Ware we learned that some people spit when they talk and sometimes you have to yell to get your point across. • From Mr. Brown we learned that no matter if you’re going on the 2 or 3 check mark system he will never give you the last check mark. • From Ms.Safier we learned “No sex, drugs, alcohol, wear your seatbelt, be nice to your siblings, get help if you need it, and quit that gossiping.” • Those of you in careers class last year will remember that Mrs.Wilcoxen showed us what bat wings are, but we also learned that it’s never too late to do something you’ve always wanted to do. • From Mr. Underwood we learned that if he says “Maybe, I’ll get back to you, Let me think on that, or Check back with me tomorrow,” 99% of the time that means no. In the last 4 years we’ve all had the opportunity to learn how to be a friend, a student, and a teammate. Our coaches and teammates helped us learn how to win together but more importantly how to lose together because you can’t always win. High school will always be a part of our lives we take with us but unlike when we were freshmen and thought that graduation would be the end of the world, we now realize that this is just the beginning for all of us. No matter what we do or where we go I will always be proud to say, “It’s a great day to be a Logger.” Congratulations class of 2016, we did it! -Jocie Roberts Valedictorian Made Possible With Generous Contributions From: Wauna Credit Union • US Bank, Vernonia Branch R&S Market & Vernonia Scrub Tub Vernonia Dental • Black Iron Grill • Jeff & Susan Ely • Bridge Street Mini Mart Vernonia Auto Parts • Susan & Rick Wagner • Susan & Dale Pedersen • Erica Johansen • Kathi & Mike Fetch
