12 obituaries/classified ads october1 2015 In Memory of... George E. Bellingham George E. Bellingham, 82, a longtime resident of the Vernonia community, died Thursday evening, September 10, 2015 at his home. A Celebration of Life Service was held on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at 3:00 pm at the Grace Family Fellowship, 957 State Avenue in Vernonia, with Elder Steve Weller, officiating. A Flag Honor Presentation was under the American Legion Washington Post #2 in Forest Grove. Private Family Interment Rites will be held at a later date at the Fish Hawk Cemetery, Fish Hawk Cemetery Road in Birkenfeld, Oregon. Family and friends were invited to attend a gathering immediately following the church ceremony, held in the fellowship hall. George Earl Bellingham was born October 27, 1932 in Portland, Oregon, the son of the late Guy Edward Bellingham and Zella Jane (Crandell) Bellingham. He was raised and received his education in the Mist and Birkenfeld communities and later graduated from Vernonia High School Class of 1949-50. He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict, having joined the United States Army Air Corps on January 8, 1951 in Portland, Oregon. He spent a majority of his enlistment in Northern Africa. George separated from the Army Air Corps on November 19, 1953 and returned to the Portland area. George was united in marriage to DeLoris Farthing Peterson on May 1, 1981 in Tualatin, Oregon. They celebrated their 34 th wedding anniversary this past May. Following their marriage they moved to the Vernonia community, where they have resided since. He had worked as a yarder operator for Bellingham Logging Company, a log truck driver for Curls Transportation Company, and a dump truck driver at Northwest Road Builders until he retired at the age of seventy-two. Among his special interests he enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding and watching sports. He was active in youth sports for many years, participating as a basketball coach and 17 years as a basketball referee. He was a long time member of the Vernonia Ridge Riders horse club where he served as President for 10 years. George was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Zella Bellingham; two brothers, Art Bellingham and Ted Bellingham; stepson, Scott Peterson, and grandson, Bryan. Survivors include his wife, DeLoris Bellingham of the family home in Vernonia, Oregon; his five children and their spouses, Greg and Merridee Bellingham of Tualatin, Oregon; Brad and Becky Bellingham of Harrisburg, Oregon; Jeff and Stephanie Bellingham of Kennewick, Washington; Teri Bellingham Holm and Wayne Holm of North Plains, Oregon; and Ross Bellingham and Elisa “Scooter” Licon of Portland, Oregon; his stepdaughter and her spouse, Wendy and Mike Ingraham of Birkenfeld, Oregon; sister and brother-in-law, Stella and Dareld Saturn of Bend, Oregon; sisters- in-law, Marie Bellingham of Birkenfeld, Oregon and Marge Bellingham of Portland, Oregon; brother-in-law, “Unc” Donald Stauffer of Wilsonville, Oregon. Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family suggests that remembrances may be contributions to the Vernonia Schools Athletic Fund, 1201 Texas Avenue, Vernonia, Oregon 97064, in his memory. Robert D. “Bob” Grosnick Robert D. “Bob” Grosnick, 84, a resident of the Vernonia community, died Monday evening, September 14, 2015 at the Hospice Care Center in Longview, Washington. M e m o r i a l Services were held on Monday, September 21, 2015 at 2:30 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1350 E. Knott Street in Vernonia, Oregon, with Branch President, Roger Cook, presiding, Dedication of the Grave and Private Family Vault Interment preceded the church ceremony at 11:00 am at the Skyline Memorial Park, 4101 NW Skyline Blvd. in Portland, Oregon. Family and friends were invited to attend a reception immediately following the church ceremony, held in the fellowship room of the church. Robert Donald “Bob” Grosnick was born November 8, 1930 in Ada, Minnesota, the son of the late Alfred August Grosnick and Cora (Rasmussen) Grosnick. Following their marriage they resided in the communities of Beaverton for one year, Phoenix Valley, Arizona for eight years and southern California, until 1999 when they returned to Oregon settling at Hagg Lake. They moved to the Laurelwood community in 2000, where they lived for four years, until 2004 when they moved to their current home in Vernonia, where they have resided since. He had worked as a heavy equipment operator in the commercial construction industry for Hoffman Construction Company in Portland. Bob had worked on several local projects, including the Justice Center in Portland. He worked for many years, until he retired in 1999. Bob was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Vernonia and Local Operating Engineers Union Local # 701 in Portland, Oregon. Among his special interests he enjoyed his work and landscaping their home in Vernonia, including the sloping of their property as well as building their retaining wall. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Cora Grosnick, his brother, Alfred “Bud” Grosnick and his sister, Verona Krogstad. Survivors include his wife, Terry Grosnick of the family home in Vernonia, Oregon; his three children and their spouses, Robert L. “Rob” and JoAnn Grosnick of Gurley, Alabama; Tena Marie Chain of Florence, Oregon and Kelli Tonya and Michael Hennessey of Portland, Oregon; his sister, Beverly Borland of Lewistown, Idaho and his sister-in-law, Ricki Grosnick of Mesquite, Texas.
