Circuit Court Judge Position 1 Jason Heym - I grew up in Cleveland Ohio to a plumber and a bookkeeper and am the first person in my extended family to attend college. My wife Mayland and I have been married for 12 years; we met at Willamette University where I graduated with a JD/MBA. Mayland works as a registered nurse. Mayland and I are blessed with two children ages 11 and 9. We live outside of Scappoose on a hobby farm where we raise hogs, rabbits and occasionally goats. In our free time we enjoy hunting, fishing, hiking and other outdoor activities as a family. My professional background is that I am a lawyer with a very active practice that touches upon most areas of law. My focus is domestic relations where I help clients with a host of issues including but not limited to divorce, custody, support, business planning and liquidation, real estate, criminal matters and tax issues directly and through collaborating with other professionals. I have the good fortune to have the respect of both lawyers and the judges that hear my cases by always being prepared and focused on practical solutions with a professional and cooperative demeanor. Cathleen Callahan - I have practiced law in Columbia County for over 14 years,in Clatskanie and in St. Helens. As City Prosecutor I represented the City of Clatskanie. Based on the i n d i v i d u a l ’ s criminal history and other factors, I crafted offers that were reasonable, provided consequences for the behavior, yet allowed the defendant to show his commitment to rehabilitation. When necessary, I litigated criminal matters in Clatskanie Court which included jury and bench trials. In addition, I assisted Clatskanie police officers with bench trials for contested traffic offenses. The City prosecuted the crimes of Driving under the Influence, Reckless Driving, Assault IV (Domestic), Harassment, and other misdemeanors. As an experienced City Prosecutor, I am asked to be a visiting City Prosecutor for Scappoose Municipal Court if the City Prosecutor has a conflict. In addition to the City Prosecutor duties, my practice consisted of court appointed criminal defense work, and a varied and extensive civil practice, including family law, custody, employment law, estate planning, Mariolino’s Pizza & Grill Open for breakfast, lunch & dinner Daily Specials We have ice cream! I am also a certified mediator. Circuit court Judge Position 3 Jenefer Grant - I have served for nearly seven years as one of three Circuit Judges (Oregon’s highest trial court) for Columbia County, and as the Columbia County Presiding Judge since January, 2012. Prior to becoming a judge, I practiced criminal, juvenile, and domestic relations law in Columbia County Circuit Court, and in the municipal courts of this county, for twelve years. During my nearly 20 years living and working here, I have built relationships with social services, law enforcement, schools, and t ’ n o D other community organizations. My familiarity with local resources enables me to better assist people with the many problems which are presented in the course of hearing cases in the areas of criminal justice, juvenile, and domestic relations. I presided over Juvenile Drug Court, and now I oversee our Adult Drug Court, as well as Truancy Court, a new program we developed last year. Last year, we implemented “e-Court,” a paperless system to replace files with electronic records, mandated by the Oregon Judicial Department. This transition has been challenging for us, but will lead to better access by the public to our court records, and more convenient ways for the public to transact business with us.
