community march7 Tickets Available for 2013 Vernonia Sportsman’s Banquet Tickets are now available for the 2013 Vernonia Sportsman’s Banquet on Friday April 15 th . The fourth annual banquet will start at 6:30 PM and will be held once again at the Vernonia Christian Church. Tickets are available for $10 at the Vernonia Sentry Market Video Department. Only 300 tickets will be sold. This year the banquet features “Family in the Field Night” with Chad Shearer. This will include special guests Chad, Marsha, Walker and Wyatt Schearer, hosts of “Shoot Straight TV” on the Sportsman’s Channel. The Walkers are Montana professional outfitters and guides; Chad is a “Empty Bowls” Helps Battle Hunger The seventh annual Empty Bowls event is scheduled for March 15 from 5:00-7:00 PM at the McBride Elementary School in St. Helens, 2774 Columbia Blvd. Empty Bowls is an annual fundraiser for the Columbia Pacific Food Bank. Guests will receive a simple meal of soup and a hand made bowl of their choice. This event is truly a community effort. Everything involved in the event-the bowls, the soups, and the entertainment are donated by schools and individuals, local businesses and artists, who are dedicated to making the lives of those facing food insecurity a bit easier. Guests donating $10 receive a ticket allowing them to choose the bowl of their choice and to have it filled with soup. Food has been generously donated this year by the following businesses: Columbia Theater, Dockside, Futano’s Pizza, Klondike Restaurant, St. Helens Elk Lodge and Sunshine Pizza. Advance purchase of tickets for the event is appreciated for planning purposes. Advance tickets can be purchased at Word for Word, the Columbia Pacific Food Bank and Columbia County Commission on Children and Families in St. Helens, and Dianna’s Formal Affair in Scappoose. L.L.
