20 community december11 2012 PTA Press Extra!! Extra! Read All About It!! By Melissa Zavales It is the holiday season and we are ready to go. We have a fabulous team on the PTA, whom makes things happen. I would like to extend a couple of thank you’s to our members. A very special thank you to Susan Ely whose extensive organization and relentless volunteer co- ordination made our Fall Carnival a huge success; to Camrin Erryick for bringing back the carnival and ensuring a good team was in place to make it fun for com- munity members of all ages; to the Verno- nia School Distinct for opening the doors to the public to aid in the fundraiser; and an enormous thank you to all the volun- teers from school staff, to janitorial help, to moms, dads, kids, teens, and busi- nesses who made the carnival possible.. THANK YOU! We, the PTA, are look- ing forward to doing it again next year. Hopefully “YOU” will join too and bring bigger and better ideas. Our PTA is having a giving tree for the teachers of the Vernonia School District. This is our way to help the staff in giving them gifts of supplies they request to aid in the education of our students. If you are in a position to give please stop by the school and pick a tag from the tree outside the main office. Once you pur- chase the suggested item please wrap and attach tag so we know whom to deliver the gift to. We are also doing something for students as well. This year it will be called SECRET SANTA! We will have a choice of 3 gifts. One for $.25 cents, one for $.50 cents and one for $1.00. Your child may choose a friend or teacher to receive a purchased item of their choice along with a festive note. This is a fun way for stu- dents to celebrate the holiday season. The SECRET SANTA station will be up and running Monday December 10 th through Thursday the 13 th . All gifts will be deliv- ered Friday the 14 th . The stations hours will be 7:30 AM-8:0 AM and 3:00-3:20 PM. Please stop by and give some holi- day spirit and support your local PTA. PTA will be decorating for the band holiday concert on Thursday De- cember 13 th at 7:00 PM and the Elemen- tary Holiday program December 18 th at 7 PM. We hope to see many jolly faces to support the efforts of Mr. Izzett and his students. As PTA promised through fund- raising and the help of Mr. Spalding, we have a new “ROCK WALL” in the el- ementary gym. We are so excited to be able to present this to the Vernonia School Dis- trict. Students are ready to begin their climbing adventures when they return from Christmas break. The wall is in- stalled and looks amazing in the new gym. Thank you to all whom supported our fundraising efforts to make the rock wall a success. Also a special thank you to the group of volunteers whom gave up a weekend day to install the wall. Again we have awesome community support, and hope that many more will get in- volved and join our PTA! Old, worn out and rusty? Need body work? Call... So we’re trying to develop a team style this year. That way when our younger wrestlers are watching from the stands they can learn what to do in certain situations.” The Loggers line-up is filled with underclassman this year and the squad is made up of a lot of freshman and sophomores. But Barnes still has some key returning wrestlers. He also has some new wrestlers to the program. Dawson Shay is senior and will wrestle in the upper weight classes. He recently finished 3 rd at the Harrisburg Tournament at 220 pounds. T John Wolf is a senior and a first year wres- tler who is very athletic and also took 3 rd at Harrisburg at 195. Also watch for Mikol Pihl at the upper end of the classes. Ethan Johnston is another se- nior who did well at Harrisburg placing continued from page 16 5 at 182. Bridger Steward is a junior with several years of experience, who finished 6 th at Harrisburg at 170, and who should fit somewhere in the middle weights for the team. Barnes says he is also expecting good things from freshman Caton Watts and Jessea Hunt and sophomores An- drew Jennings, Jeffery Goodman, Da- mian Young, Michael and Jason Bous- laugh, and Dylan Taylor. New students to the school, brothers Zane Green and David Kovelda have wrestling experi- ence and will definitely be a strong part of the team. Also watch for exchange student Vardan Grigoryan as a first time wrestler. Barnes says he expects the Loggers to be right there challenging for the District Championship again. “I told the kids that I don’t care about any tournament this year except District,” says Barnes. “Our goal is to win the District and I don’t care what happens anywhere else as long as we all wrestle our hardest all the time.” th In Memory of... continiued from page 19 of Vancouver, Janet LeSollen and her husband, Steve, of Saint Helens, Mary Jane Hackler of Newport and Brother- Clayton Lynch, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, his extended fam- ily, including his two furry daughters, “Maddie” and Gabbie”.
