There is also a blog that ANYONE can access to offer thought, opinions, prayer and questions and just basically use and enjoy. I think it might be broken lol! No one uses it, so I am asking you to visit the site and say hello or even better; engage in what you believe or why you might not. Offer some feedback on the site or articles. See the link below! You can talk about other things as well, please be respectful to one an- other if lively debates come up and even if they don’t. There are really hundreds of people in our community who believe or say they do. This can be one of the roads we can use to bring the churches together and what a tool it could be to collaborate and connect! Many thanks to the Vernonia Christian Church for the V.B.S. program this year, once again one of the best pro- grams going. Thanks also for those who come out to support the Summer Meals Program. Breakfast and lunch FREE to anyone 18 and under. Continue to come, Cathy loves to see your faces and serve our community. this summer, PBF will be relocating to a different time and place. Beginning Sun- day, June 24th, Pioneer Baptist will meet at 6:00 PM in the Vernonia Foursquare Church (850 Madison Ave.). This sched- ule will remain in place through the summer. When the new school opens, it is expected that PBF will return to a Sun- day morning service in the new school facility. More information will be given closer to that date. Senior Center Activities 5-Area Luncheon: Monday, July 30 at the Rainier Senior Center Connie’s Fabulous Breakfasts: Fabulous breakfasts are available to the public on Fridays for a cost of only $3.50. The event happens at the Vernonia Senior Center (446 Bridge Street) from 7:30 to 9:00 AM each Fri- day. Meal price includes a beverage, too. Enter through the side, parking lot door. What a deal! Week Day Lunches: The Vernonia Senior Center offers nutritious and tasty lunches each weekday for a $4 donation for seniors over 60; cost is $5 for anyone under 60. To-go meals are available for $5. These are available to the public, not just Senior Citizens. (Mealtime is noon; late arrivals may not be served.) You can reserve your lunch by calling by 11:15 AM, or fur- ther in advance if possible, to assist the cooks as they prepare the day’s meals. Meals on Wheels are available for a $4 donations for seniors over 60. Please contact the Senior Center for an appli- cation. Maple Bars available locally! Con- nie King, the cook at the Senior Cen- ter, is making maple bars each day. The maple bars are available to the public, too, and only cost $1 each. Availabil- ity is subject to quantity on hand. You can assure yourself of a good supply by pre-ordering them directly from Connie by calling the Senior Center VBS: coming in August, times T.B.A. helpers and volunteers are still welcome to sign up. Senior Stars: Sally Harrison Thrift Store: Bargain prices can be found in Vernonia’s Senior Center in their Thrift Store. The retail store is open Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM. The Thrift Store provides funds for the Senior Center’s facility and its many activi- ties. Donations can also be dropped off during those same hours, and donated clothes need to be clean and in good condition so they are “sales ready”. We are offering half off during the first week of each month. Buy locally and support your local Senior Center. For after hours drop-offs please con- tact Pauline 503-429-5810. Special Days: On the last Wednesday of the month Wauna Credit Union will be serving ice cream. On the last Fri- day of the month we will serve birth- day cake and ice cream to celebrate that month’s birthdays. Membership Dues: Another way to support Vernonia’s Senior Center is to pay the $15 annual membership dues. Checks may be mailed or dropped off at the Senior Center. Anyone 50 and older may join. Sally says she does believe the current City Council, City Administrator and Staff are fair minded, thoughtful, intelligent, and have the best interests of the City at heart. In 2011, Sally was named the “My Fair Lady” Queen at the Columbia County Fair. Currently Sally teaches beginning art classes for painting and drawing at the Vernonia Community Learning Center. She is also designing tote bags for the 2012 Jamboree. To wind this up, Sally says she lived her whole married life here, except a tenure when they lived in Gerhart and Forks, WA, before returning to Vernonia to care for Freda and Charlie Biggs. Sally has a son Michael, a civil engineer in Anchorage, Alaska, a daughter Lila and grandson Jordon, who works for Small and Large Animals Warner Brothers in Seattle. Sally says she loves feeding the birds at her house on the Nehalem River. On Sally’s bucket list: She is of Irish descent and loves researching genealogy and would love to go kiss the Blarney Stone and pursue her roots.
