Church News and Events
By Mark Brown
May I ask you a favor? We have
had the Vernonia Christian News articles
going for a little while now. There is also
a blog that ANYONE can access to offer
thought, opinions, prayer and questions
and just basically use and enjoy. I think
it might be broken lol! No one uses it,
so I am asking you to visit the site and
say hello or even better; engage in what
you believe or why you might not. Offer
some feedback on the site or articles. See
the link below!
You can talk about other things
as well, please be respectful to one an-
other if lively debates come up and even
if they don’t.
There are really hundreds of
people in our community who believe
or say they do. This can be one of the
roads we can use to bring the churches
together and what a tool it could be to
collaborate and connect!
Many thanks to the Vernonia
Christian Church for the V.B.S. program
this year, once again one of the best pro-
grams going. Thanks also for those who
come out to support the Summer Meals
Program. Breakfast and lunch FREE to
anyone 18 and under. Continue to come,
Cathy loves to see your faces and serve
our community.

Church (850 Madison Ave.). This sched-
ule will remain in place through the
summer. When the new school opens, it
is expected that PBF will return to a Sun-
day morning service in the new school
facility. More information will be given
closer to that date.

Philippians 4:8, 9
8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true,
whatever is honorable, whatever is right,
whatever is pure, whatever is [e]lovely,
whatever is of good repute, if there is
any excellence and if anything worthy
of praise, [f]dwell on these things. 9 The
things you have learned and received
and heard and seen in me practice these
things, and the God of peace will be with
you.
Senior Stars: Sally Harrison
Thrift Store: Bargain prices can be
found in Vernonia’s Senior Center in
their Thrift Store. The retail store is
open Monday through Friday, from
9:00 AM until 3:00 PM. The Thrift
Store provides funds for the Senior
Center’s facility and its many activi-
ties. Donations can also be dropped off
during those same hours, and donated
clothes need to be clean and in good
condition so they are “sales ready”.
We are offering half off during the first
week of each month. Buy locally and
support your local Senior Center.
For after hours drop-offs please con-
tact Pauline 503-429-5810.
Special Days: On the last Wednesday
of the month Wauna Credit Union will
be serving ice cream. On the last Fri-
day of the month we will serve birth-
day cake and ice cream to celebrate
that month’s birthdays.
Membership Dues: Another way to
support Vernonia’s Senior Center is to
pay the $15 annual membership dues.
Checks may be mailed or dropped off
at the Senior Center. Anyone 50 and
older may join.

generate small business—now she
looks around sadly at many empty
buildings. Sally says she does
believe the current City Council,
City Administrator and Staff are fair
minded, thoughtful, intelligent, and
have the best interests of the City at
heart.
In 2011, Sally was named
the “My Fair Lady” Queen at the
Columbia County Fair.
Currently Sally teaches
beginning art classes for painting
and drawing at the Vernonia
Community Learning Center. She is
also designing tote bags for the 2012
Jamboree.
To wind this up, Sally says
she lived her whole married life
here, except a tenure when they lived
in Gerhart and Forks, WA, before
returning to Vernonia to care for
Freda and Charlie Biggs.
Sally has a son Michael,
a civil engineer in Anchorage,
Alaska, a daughter Lila and
grandson Jordon, who works for
Small and Large Animals
Warner Brothers in Seattle.
Sally says she loves feeding
the birds at her house on the
Nehalem River.
On Sally’s bucket list: She
is of Irish descent and loves
researching genealogy and would
love to go kiss the Blarney Stone
and pursue her roots.

From all her contributions it’s

easy to tell Sally loves Vernonia.
She reflects that, “...one can survive

almost anything.” She adds as a

final quote, “Stuff doesn’t matter,
Or 24 hr. Emergency Number (503) 397-6470
