schools march13 VHS Band Wins League, Qualifies for State The Vernonia High School Band won the Northwest League Band Festival on March 8, 2012 and has qualified for the State Contest in May. According to Band Instructor Rob Izzett, the VHS Band received scores of 85, 86, and 87, which was higher than any other school, including 3A schools at the competition. This was a big improvement over the previous year when VHS was chosen to attend State from a pool based on receiving two scores of 75. Band Instructor Rob Izzett also wished to acknowledge foreign exchange student Iryna Verhogliad who was the piano accompanist for Sarah Wagner’s tuba solo. VHS Student Wins D.A.R.
