community october11 2011 Living On a Lake in the Country: Country Barns By Gayle Rich-Boxman When I take my drive from Fishhawk Lake to go to work at Vernonia Realty, I get to have one of the most pleasant driving experiences anyone can imagine. The roads are usually quiet, except for the occasional logging truck and it gives me a chance to enjoy all of the visual pleasures that most who live in the city don’t get to experience. In particular, there are barns of all different sizes and configurations and each has its own story to tell. Each of these offer photo opportunities for someone who is passionate about old barns. There are working barns, rundown barns, and those with multi- colored roofs. Birkenfeld, 20 miles past Vernonia was one of my favorites and after the winter of ’08, which was so hard on many old buildings, this one succumbed to the weight of snow and caved in. I am happy that I have this photo as my memory of the lovely piece of aging architecture that it once was. For those of us who look at the history that these hold in their Americanism, it takes us back in time, simply by looking at them...reflections of a simpler life in Oregon, one filled with agriculture, logging; living off the land. Maybe this is why I’m so drawn to these majestic old beauties? 11 My website: http://www.lakehomesatfishhawk.com/ My blog: http://fishhawklakerealtor.wordpress.com/ Gayle Rich-Boxman Realtor® Vernonia Realty Direct: (503)755-2905 reach thousands of potential customers advertise here! email us: ads@vernoniasvoice.com call us: 503.367.0098 For more of my photos and blogs about Fishhawk Lake, Vernonia and surrounding areas please visit: Some that have been photographed no longer My real estate blog: exist.
