20 in other words june14 2011 THE INKWELL By Lynn Berry The season is shifting. Can you feel it? Honestly, the season (and other areas in my life at the moment) seem to be shifting a bit more slowly than I would prefer; however, I know that patience and acceptance are virtues intrinsic to artistic and personal development. Accepting the moment as it is and as it should be gives us freedom from our usually unreasonable expectations and gives us a sense of peace from our illusion of control. Whether we are waiting for a season to finally change, a creative breakthrough to emerge, or a personal endeavor to finally be complete, the essence of living is in the marinating and in the making of what is to come. It is in this very place where we live most of the time anyway, and it is in this very place where we have the opportunity to find union and meaning in the midst of these shifts. Local resident, Diana Peach, shares her insightful poem, untitled, which explores a shift of significant transformation using confessional tone and a pivotal unifying image of transition illustrated as flight to express the union of spirit and grace. Terry’s Gym I practice letting go, And come to find in myself something I cannot name, Something that I begin to recognize Despite all the shifts of the World. It is as if All my life I have been riding through dark clouds And suddenly lift into the limitless sky. I have come to uncover a depth of peace and love That fills me with you, And frees in me The knowledge that we are of a Belonging That does no break, That nothing changes And that cannot die. ------ Diana Peach ---Writer’s Idea: “Each morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most”—Budda. Today, write about your relationship with your higher source, yourself, a loved one, or your pet. Are you amazed, drained, confused, exhausted, overjoyed, thankful? Write about it; I guarantee you’ll gain fresh perspective. ---Writer’s Tip: Honor your intuition this month. We often neglect that vague gut feeling or that distant sensation from within. Instead, acknowledge it; trust it. Unbelievably, practicing this can lead to immense artistic and personal expansion. ---Please send your original submissions to, (or if you would like a copy of any of the published poems in their entirety), InkwellVernonia@gmail. com or by mail: PO Box 333 Vernonia, OR 97064.
