Mac lovers worldwide have been holding their breath. It's finally here and...what a disappointment! Maybe I just didn't know what to expect, but after playing around with an iPad for a few hours this weekend I wasn't all that impressed. Essentially, the iPad is a giant, overpriced iPod touch. They have all the same features, the same set-up and the same applications. They have the exact same design, but the iPad is about eight times larger than the iPod touch. They have all the same features, except the iPad has pages (a program similar to Microsoft Word) and the iPod doesn't, and the iPod has a camera and the iPad doesn't. Too bad the little iPod came first and spoiled all of big brother iPad's secrets. The iPad has all the features you would expect. personalize your iPad by buying apps from the App Store. The app store was one of Apple's most genius ideas to date. With apps, you can have anything you want at your fingertips. Literally, anything—for a price. Another drawback to the iPad is that only one program or application can You can listen to music, view pictures or surf the internet, but to have the full "iPad experience" you can be open at a time. These banners will be displayed in the Media Center. The updates to the old commons include The updates are estimated to cost between $150,000 and $170,000 and are being paid for with funds from multiple sources including the recent bond and deferred maintenance funds. Some permanent, bench-style tables will be added where different levels begin and end, with stools for additional seating. The outside entryway will also be touched up, the broken and worn-away concrete on the ramp leading to the main entrance will be repaired. Black mats with the school's mascot will be positioned at every door leading into the building. "We've tried to schedule it two summers in a row and it just hasn't happened," Holstrom said. "The gym will be closed the entire month of July leading up to the start of volleyball in mid-August." The main gym and the new commons will be closed for that period of time, but the auxiliary gym will remain open. For those who don't have an iPod touch or an iPhone, an iPad would be an understandable, comparable substitute, especially if you have no way of accessing your e-mail while you are out of town. The iPad provides two ways of finding internet connections. You may choose to simply search out wireless networks for free or you can purchase use of AT&T's 3G Wireless Network for $29.99 per month. The connection is surprisingly slow, but it can be used anywhere in the world. And for those of us who couldn't purchase an iPhone because we don't have service with AT&T, this is perfect, because you don't have to be an AT&T customer to use the network. At 1.5 pounds and 0.5 inch thick, the iPad appears to be technological genius, but upon further inspection, any current Apple customers will be disappointed. For the first time ever, Apple has come out with a product that won't really change the way people live their lives. It is just another novelty item they created to make money. I know times are tough, but couldn't they have been a little bit more creative? Bigger doesn't always mean better. With the cheapest version costing $499,1 would have expected a little more. The iPad isn't bad by any means, it just isn't any better than the iPod. Here's my advice: if you already have an iPod touch or iPhone, stick with what you've got. Clouds (reflective panels) will also be added just below the peak of the roof which will help lighten the gym. Possibly the most significant change to the gym will be the addition of banners including State Championship banners as well as banners for academic achievement in athletics.
