Forty-five Turn Out For Track West Linn freshmen played Oregon City junior high Friday, March 14. The West Linn gals pulled ahead to win 48 to 27 aft er a 19-all tie at the half. Girls playing were Rita Garner, Esther Heppner, Neva Perkins, Shirley Williams, Grace McCart, Mar? jorie Zeller, Joan. Fallon, Kay Grandquist, Catherine Calzada and Diane Athem. Although the team is responsible for the points made, Joan Fallon served. 11 points and Kay Granquist,7, as the two top scoters. Girls’ volleyball and swim ming teams seem to have de feated McMinnville in both sports. Now they’re going back to try their luck at basketball. No date, as yet, has been set. West Linn’s recreation volley ball team has entered the Port land Lake league again. Last year the girls won the league trophy and the year before were runners up. The girls have done so well ,they’re having two teams. Miss Locher is coach for the “B" team which has enter ed the “B” league. Their tournament games will consist of two 14-minute halves, with two minutes' between the halves. Also, they change sides at the half. The ball may : be volleyed only three times, and- an assist on serve may be used. The rotation will be clockwise. The thirteen girls who .will be playing on the “A” team are Doris Corderman, Sally Ware, Florine Eisele, Phyllis; DUn- woodie, Arlene DeNeui, Ruth Ann Corderman, Joan Plant, Bonna Fritchie, Neva Perkins, Nancy Mabee, Virginia Jones, Betty Greene and Corrige Ar nold. Of’ the forty-five only eight are returning lettermen. They are: Bob Greenwood, pole vault; Bob Swingle, sprints; Ernie Rickard, mile; Eddie Meade, javelin, re lay and broad-jump; Ronnie Schief, quarter mile, broad-jump and relay; Lowell Landis, half mile, 880; Austin Hull, javelin, and Larry Lee, broad-jump and mile. Coach Burnett states that he thinks! the season should be a fairly good one^ but that We are weak in the high and low hurdle groups. Pat Adams, a junior transfer from Lincoln; is a goodi prospect for the shotput, and Carl Crumley looks good at throwing the discus. BATMEN BAT CANBY IN SEASON OPENER | f V._. The following boys were Awarded their ’49-50 basketball letters; Bruce Scholer, Bert Stein, Dale Stewart, Lowell Landis, Austin Hull, Larry Lee, Alden Rondeau,’ Dave Grey, and Bob Scholer Managers Don Manning and John Trapp were awarded let- ters also. Honorable mention was given to Jon Sunquist, Clayton Hal- back, and Gordon Hammerle. . Jim O’Donnell was laid up on the Oregon City hospital with blood poisoning from mat bums in wrestling. Our congratulations to Bruce Scholer, Bert Stein, and Dale Stewart for making the top ten scorers of the TYV league. Batter up! This year West Linn will’ have a freshman baseball team sixth period. The team will be piloted by Coach Cather- wood, Good luck, fellas. What kind of a baseball team are we going to have? This is the question l am asked every day and it is a hard question to answer.
