/THE AMPLIFIER Volume XXI WEST LINN HIGH SCHOOL, WEST LINN, OREGON, JAN. 10,1941 Classes to Be Open Several new classes will be open to West Linn students the second semester. There are to be three new subjects. Those are, consumers education IV, taught by Mr. Fors. This subject is to teach students the art of con sumer’s buying. Second is sales manship VI, also taught by Mr. Fors. 'Third, is economic geogra phy II, which is to be taught by Mr. Tunnell seventh period. Miss McWhorter will have a class seventh period, home ec onomics, open to senior girls who are interested. Other classes are boys’ chorus VI, by Mr. Wade, third period and girls’ chorus, taught by Miss Yost, fifth and sixth periods. --------------------------- West Linn Wins Football Trophy West Linn high school has been awarded the trophy for football co-championship of the Tualatin-Yamhill valley league for the 194Q season. The trophy, which may be seen in the trophy case in the school library, stands about 12 inches high. It is'a gold football player mounted on a black and white bake-lite base inscribed with the words, “Co-champion, Tualatin- Yamhill Valley Conference.” The emblem was won last year when the West Linn football team, after suffering a 7-0 de feat at the hands of the Hills boro eleven, came back to play their best game of the season and defeat Beaverton 20-13, to tie that team fbr the league championship. Students to Enjoy Hobby Collections Students at West Linn, in the near future, will have the privil ege to see and enjoy a great col lection of hobbies. Anyone is en titled to bring his hobby, even though he is just beginning dr has been working on it for some time. According to Mr. Wade, who is in charge of the show, anything from pins to cars will be accepted. The date and time have not yet been decided, but is believed that it will be sometime quite soon. The place will be at the West Linn auditorium. Green and Gold Staff Chosen The outcome of the 1941 Green and Gold Annual has already been predicted to be on the most sucessful in the history of West Linn. At the present the staff, unless alterations are made, appears to be as follows: Art editors—Jack Myers, Mary Jane Hill, Betty Éasson. Administration—Dorthea Irion, Glenil Campbell, Viola Teidman. Classes—Maxine Chaney, Bill Walston, Laverne Maine, Gloria Brough. Activities — Kenhy Lingenfel der, Bob Dagget, Peter Blyth. Athletics — Bob Larson, Loren Miliken, Bob Donovan. Editor Dave Williams states that he has the most sincere be lief that the above staff will not only produce the finest results, but will do their best to put the feeling into all students of West Linn that this year’s annual is worthy of their whole hearted support. Plans for a tremendous sales activity have been made, said Dave and “I promise all students that it will be* made possible for everyone to become the proud owner of our treasured volume.” “It isn’t the idea of school spir it that is going into this volume altogether, but it will be a test on the part of all to carry the success of this volume to greater heights than before,” he conti nued. “Students have a very high mark toward which to aim when considering the past issues and I promise you that with your help we will be successful.” Demonstrating Program to Be Presented “The Wonders of Liquid Air” is the subject of a demonstation to be given by Mr. Walter Ever man when he comes to West Linn on his 4th annual western tour, Monday, Jan. 14. Among the things Mr. Ever man will demonstrate is pound ing nails with a banana frozen by liquid air. He will also play a clarinet by attaching a test tube of liquid air to the mouth piece and manipulating the keys himself. The demonstration, another of the national assemblies, is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 14. No. 8 Skating Party to Be Held January 15 F.F.A. Holds Annual Banquet With semester exams behind them, West Linn students will have nothing to mar their en joyment at the skating party, sponsored by the Honor society, to be held at the Oaks park, Wednesday, January 15. The af fair will start at 7:30 p. m. Buses will be run, announcement of the schedule will be made later. West Linn students are asked to get their admission tickets from Audrey Gary, Nancy Rob inson and Antoinette Cissman as without these tickets, students will not be able to get in for 35 cents. Speakers at the Future Far mers of America banquet held last Wednesday were Mr. Elwain Greenwood, secretary of the State Bankers Association, Mr. Law rence Johnson, state F.F.A. presi dent, and Mr. John L. Gary, sup erintendent of West Linn high school, Mr. Greenwood is well known to West Linn students, haying presented the plaque to the West Linn chapter in as sembly recently.
