SUPPORT THE OREGON MIRROR ADVERTISERS FROM THE PULPIT by Dale Hampton The inquiry that is constantly ask ed today by all types of people is: “ Why is it that some people, break ing all rules of both man and God seem to prosper in any endeavor that they undertake? Why is it that these same person* are able to live in large mansions ana drive the most high-powered cars? Why is it that they never seem to have a seige of adversity? Then, the Chris tian who has become weak and dis couraged retorts with this, “ Why is it that they never seem to have a seige of adversity?” Then, the Chris tian who have become weak and dis couraged retorts with this, “ why is it that they can so live not in har mony with the program of God, and yet they seem to have everything that goes to make one seemingly happy?” If you noticed in the last statement I used the words “ seem” and “ seemingly” , because that happens to be the case. They are seemingly prospering. These persons are S E E M IN G L Y happy. For as David has proclaimed, “ I have never seen the righteous forsaken; nor his seed begging bread.” There is an im measurable amount of truth and consolation in this fact. However, there must be a new definition for righteousness. It is not the “ self-righteousness” that we experience in our daily living. It is not righteousness that is set up by the man-made rules, rather it is the conformation to the rules as set up by Jesus Christ. The obtaining of material success is merely a matter of concentra tion on one particular goal; a m at ter of intelligent planning for that goal; a matter of hard work to se cure that goal; and a matter of worthy sacrifice to finally reach that goal. The matter of obtaining spiritual success is another thing. One must first be convinced that righteousness does oay. One must be willing to accept the true definition of righteousness. One must then con tinually strive to become righteous; not the man-made “ righteous” ; but according to the laws of God.
