ELKHORN CREST ULTRA MARATHON August 19. The Elkhorn Crest 50 is a 52 mile trail run that will take you along the Elkhorn Mountain ridge line across sub-alpine forests and grasslands. The trail offers panoramic views of Baker Valley, the Wallowas, and the Blue Mountains. The race has an average elevation of over 7200 ft., making it a one- of-a-kind ultra in Oregon. MUSIC IN THE MEADOW August 20. 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Great family fun in the historic ghost town of Sumpter. This one day family friendly music festival located in downtown Sumpter, includes musical performances by numer- ous regional musicians and bands, kids games and family activities throughout the day. TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE August 21, The Great American Total Solar Eclipse will darken skies from Oregon to South Carolina, along a stretch of land about 70 miles wide. DURKEE STEAK FEED August 26, from 4:30 p.m. to about 8:00 p.m., the Durkee Steak Feed will be held at the Quail Ridge Golf Course in Baker City surrounded by classic cars from the Show -n- Shine. For easy parking, leave your vehicle at the parking lot of the Christian Church down the hill on Hwy. 7, and take the Baker City Trolley for free up to the event. Enjoy certified Angus beef ribeye steak, famous cowboy pan break slathered in butter, fresh cut veggies and corn on the cob, a baked potato and dessert for just $20. Vi married the love of her life, Mike Hill in Washington State on October 31, 1990. Vi and Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing and mush- rooming. She especially enjoyed the Spring and the color lavender. She was preceded in death by her parents. Fay Almetta Paustian Baker City, 1934-2017 Fay Almetta Paustian, 83, of Baker City, Oregon passed away on August 13, 2017 at Fay her residence Paustian in Beehive Homes in Baker City. Gray’s West & Co. has been entrusted with the arrangements. At Fay’s request, no services have been planned. On June 8, 1934, Ross and Irma (Ray) Ray- mond gave birth to Fay in Woodburn, Oregon. At a very young age Fay moved to Grant County and she graduated from Prairie City High School in 1952. She married Gordon Bruce Paustian on May 28, 1960 in Winnemucca, Nevada and together they raised five children; Carrol, David, Tamara, Gary, and Almetta. Fay’s main occupation was being a homemaker, but she also worked for Kolb & Oster, Pioneer Federal Bank, Ben’s Trans- fer, Baker School District and the County Assessor’s Office. She retired from Baker School District. Fay enjoyed crocheting, knit- ting, sewing, gardening, bowling, square dancing and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. While in school she played volleyball and was in band, Fay also volunteered at Baker Co-op for the past several years. She did many great things in her life but the accom- plishment she was most appreciated for was being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. Fay leaves behind her husband Gordon Paustian of Baker City, Oregon; her daughter Carrol Titus and son-in-law Bob Titus of Prairie City, Oregon; her son David Paustian of Baker City, Oregon; her daughter Tamara Zemmer and son-in-law Ron Meng of Baker City, Oregon; her son Gary Paustian and daughter-in-law Sherri Paustian of Nampa, Idaho; her son-in-law Lee Fuge of Canby, Oregon; her brother Delmas Raymond and sister-in-law Mary Raymond of Prairie City, Oregon; and numerous extended family members. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 12 great- grandchildren and her 1st great-great grandchild on the way. She is preceded in death by her parents Ross and Irma Raymond and her daughter Almetta Rene Fuge. Charlotte Ward Baker City, 1931-2017 Charlotte Leonora Ward, 86, of Baker City, Or- egon passed away at her Charlotte residence in Ward Meadow- brook Place on August 10, 2017. A graveside service was held on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Mt. Hope Cem- etery at 11:00 a.m. with Cary Huston officiating the service. She was born to Clyde and Leonora Ward on July 6, 1931 in Baker, Oregon. Charlotte attended schools in Baker and graduated from Baker High School in 1949 and went on to attend Oregon State College(University) gradu- ating in 1953 in the School of Pharmacy.
