The class begins at 8:00 a.m. each day. The MSHA Annual Refresher, for miners who have already taken the new miner training class, will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2015, also at the Exten- sion Office building. Dickison Baker City, 1930-2015 Wesley R. Dickison, 84, of Baker City died March 1st, 2015 at St. Alphonsus Medical Cen- Wesley ter in Baker Dickison City. A grave- side service was held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 4th at Mount Hope Cemetery in Baker City, Oregon. Wesley was born April 19, 1930 in Baker City, Or- egon to Marcus and Olive (McConnell) Dickison. He spent his childhood in Sumpter Valley attending schools in McEwen and Sumpter. Wesley was left without a father at the age of nine when his father died as a result of a log- ging accident. He worked many jobs during his youth including working and staying with Albert and Myrtle Queen and haying for Brooks Hawley and others. In 1947 Wesley started working as a Wenchman on the Sumpter Valley Gold Dredge when he was called into the military. He spent 4 years in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was hono - ably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He enjoyed the Air Force very much while stationed at Nellis Air Force Base working most of those years on the flight line with F86’s, T33’s and F80’s. On February 23, 1963 Wesley married Kathryn Bauder in Baker City. They recently celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. They spent their working years living in the beauti- ful San Francisco Bay area and Sonoma County Wine country. He worked as a bus driver for Greyhound Lines and Golden Gate Highway Transportation for 30 years and retired in 1988. He never tired of seeing the Golden Gate Bridge on his daily travels to San Francisco. Wes and Kathryn had two sons, Scott and Randy, who were the light of his life. He enjoyed helping with Little League, camp- ing, vacationing every year in Baker County, the San Francisco 49’ers and the San Francisco Giants! In 1995 they returned to Baker City. They enjoyed traveling extensively visiting their children and adored grandchildren. Jason Anthony Stratos La Grande, 1980-2015 Jason Anthony Stratos, 34, died Febru- ary 19, 2015 in Louisville, Kentucky. Jason A public Stratos memo- rial service/ potluck was planned for Sunday, March 8, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the River- side Park Pavilion in La Grande, Oregon. Jason Anthony Stratos was born June 11, 1980 in Roseburg, Oregon to Sidney Ulysses Stratos Sr. and Cheryl Ann Stratos. He graduated from Union High School and attended College of the Siskiyous studying criminal justice. Jason also began training to be an Emergency Medi- cal Technician. Jason worked a variety of construction jobs including fencing and roofing. Jason also enjoyed working with special needs children and helping others. His hobbies included playing videos and cribbage. Jason was preceded in death by his father, Sidney Ulysses Stratos Sr.; his brother Sidney Ulysses Stratos Jr. and his maternal and paternal grandparents. Survivors include his mother, Cheryl Stratos of Union, OR, son, Liam Anthony Stratos of Louis- ville KY, daughters: Alexis Drew Stratos of Kyle, TX, Lily Ann (Stratos) Harvey of Portland, OR, Charlie Marie Stratos and Fern Ira May Stratos of Yreka, CA along with Charlie and Fern’s mother Heather Stratos; sisters, Caroline (Katie) Stratos of La Grande, OR and Jona Stra- tos of Marysville, CA, her son Shilo and his children, her mother, Sher Stratos and much more adopted and related family. Llewellyn Robins Baker City, 1930-2015 Llewellyn (Lew) Rob- bins was reunited with the love of his life, Darlene, on Llewellyn February 20, Robins 2015 at the age of 84. Lew was born October 25, 1930 in Philip, South Dakota to Leicester and Inga Robbins. October 1939, at the age of 6, Lew and his family moved to Nyssa, Oregon. He attended Arcadia Grade School and graduated from Nyssa High School in 1949. As a high school project, Lew showed his love for agricultural science by growing watermelons for seed. He also custom baled hay with his brother Nor- velle and Jack Winchell, which was hand tied with wire and hauled to the coast. He met his future wife while attending the Methodist Church Camp at Wallowa Lake. He mar- ried Darlene Robbins on August 26, 1951 in Nyssa, Oregon. They had many things in common including the same last name, though not related. They moved to Corvallis where he attended Oregon State University. He graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Vocational Agriculture. While attending col- lege he belonged to the ROTC program as it was a requirement at the time of the Korean War. In 1954, they moved to Heppner, Oregon where Lew accepted his first teaching position. In 1961, they moved to Baker City, Oregon where he taught Vocational Agriculture until he retired in June of 1985. He was an advisor for the Future Farmers of America in- volving students in various competitions. After retirement, he worked at Montgomery Wards until the franchise closed. Darlene and Lew opened Robbins Arrow where he worked as the service technician. They continued in the retail business until 1994 when they both officially retired. In 1998, they went to the Ukraine as lay missionar- ies with a group from the Church of the Nazarene to help restore an educational unit. They loved to travel and took many trips to various parts of the United States. Several cruises were enjoyed during their retire- ment, one of which was a 50th year anniversary gift to the Panama Canal in 2001. They visited other is- lands along the way. A trip to Guam was enjoyed with family, which included snorkeling and deep sea fishing for marlin. Other interests in- cluded wrangling sheep and “mean” cows on the farm, playing pinochle and cribbage with friends and family, camping, horse- shoes, fishing, hunting, carving canes and attend- ing various activities of his grandchildren. He was an active mem- ber of the United Method- ist Church in Baker City, Oregon. Survivors include sons and daughter-in-laws Denzil and Kathy Robbins from Baker City, Oregon and Perry and Connie Rob- bins from Burns, Oregon; daughters and son-in-laws Ree Ella and Carsten von Borstel from Grass Valley, Oregon and De Ette and Vernon Stofleth from East Wenatchee, Washington; grandchildren Kristopher and Maranda, Brandon and Jennifer, and Lauren and Kassie Robbins; Brittany & Dean Dark, Miranda and Andy Aschoff, Landon and Savannah Hannaford and Bradley Robbins; Bernadette and Pete Go- odrich, Seth and Deidra von Borstel, Noah and Turquoise von Borstel; Kelsey and Katie Stofleth; brothers and sisters-in-law Merildean and Winona Robbins, Norvelle and Betty Robbins and brother-in-law and sister- in- laws Brock and Ruth Robbins and Ione Wells; numerous great-grand- children, nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
