Gymnasts Reveal A Personal Side by Emily Hunger-ford As a team of athletes, most people would agree that the Danish Gymnasts are certainly very talented. They are also very interesting people in their own right. After their performance at our school Dec. 4, the Rogue News staff had the opportunity to interview four members of the team. The four gymnasts were two girls, Ase Anderson, 17, and Ruth Pederson, 19, and two boys, Flemming Knudsen, 1 9, and 1 Ians Peter Larsen, 2 1 . Ruth and Hans both sooke excellent English and were happy to tell about their experiences. Both mentioned that they enjoy traveling with the team and really love gymnastics, although Hans admitted that at times he does get tired of it. The two also said that they are enjoying America, especially the beautiful scenery, that the American People are very hospitable, and that they enjoy talking with them. All four had accompanied the team to the Mexico City Olympics where they did not compete but were guest performers. Hans described Mexico as "a land of great contrasts," especially between the rich and poor people. Hans comment on the demonstration of black power by two American athletes at the Olympics was that the Negroes were justified in "demonstrating against bondage" but that "they shouldn't have done it during the victory ceremony." Next stop for the gymnasts was to be Redding, California and other points south. They often practice their routines up to two or three hours a day when they're not on the road. The average age of the Team members is 22, but the ages range from 17 to 23.
