fl 32 nightlife AUGUST 19, 2011 WWW.JUSTOUT.COM Del On Wheels... And “off Paxil,” writer-comic Shores brings sordid fun to Red Cap Whether you know him for his work as a scribe on television shows like Dharma & Greg and Queer As Folk, his raw stand-up routines or his cult-classic film, play and TV series Sordid Lives, Del Shores is nothing if not unforgettable. The writer-director-producer pulls no ce lebrity punches—calling Judge Reinhold “the biggest fucking asshole I’ve ever worked with” and Queer as Folk's Randy 1 larrison (Justin) “an ungrateful little shit”—and has earned a following for being unabashedly brash, among other things. Shores unleashes his pop culture missives at Red Cap Garage Sunday, August 28 as part of a new one-man show, Del Shores Sordid Confessions. Shores’ writing career skyrocketed with the success of his 1987 play D addy’s Dyin (W ho’s Got the Will?) and subse quent film adaptation in 1990. Perhaps best known for his play Sordid L ives, also made into a movie in 1999, and later a 2008 TV series on Togo, Shores scooped up a sizable LG- BTQ_fan base with enig matic characters like Earl “Brother Boy” Ingram—an in stitutionalized cross-dressing gay—and his mother, Peggy, played on byr yan j the srtiall screen by late Golden Girls icon Rue McClanahan. In the wake of that acclaimed, albeit short-lived “black comedy about white trash,” Shores recently wrapped filming on his latest ef fort, whose name alone capitalizes on his censor less shtick. The Trials and Tribulations o f a Trailer Trash L lousewife stars Beth Grant (L ittle Miss Sunshine ), Octavia Spencer {The Help) and Dale Dickey (M y Name is Earl) and is . prado set for a 2012 theatrical release. In the meantime, expect 75 hysterical min utes of tales tracing his “slut years” through the Sordid whirlwind, delivered with a pinch of Shores’ deceptive Texan charm. “Look, I got off Paxil,” he says of the mono logue. “Now I’m bitter, somewhat mean and I don’t give a shit anymore.” Hold onto your haunches, folks. W ith Del Shores at the wheel, it’s gonna be a bumpy, bitchy ride.
