Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel and Igor Stravinsky composed the ballets’ scores; Coco Chanel, Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse contributed design elements. Such powerful collaborations in spired Christopher Stowell, Oregon Ballet Theatre’s artistic director, who says, “One of my goals since I came here [to OBT] was to emulate, to a certain degree, the Ballet Russes... From February 26 through March 5, OBT will again perform Stowell’s Rite of Spring, along with Stravinsky’s Fire bird, recreated for OBT by San Fran cisco Ballet’s Yuri Possokhov, as part of its winter program—dubbed The Stra vinsky Project.
