Check out more of the queerest events in town by logging on to justout.com The G Word > THE HIGH SCHOOL HIJINKS OF RYDELL COME TO PORTLAND Everybody knows that the bird is the word (at least anyone who watches Family Guy). But if mod ern movie—and stage, for that matter—history has its way, Grease is the final word. And now, direct from Broadway, a new pro duction of Warren Casey and Jim Jacobs’ musical, which spawned the 1978 film classic, is cruising on in to the Keller for an evening of randy reminiscing. Named Time Magazine's, 2007 pick for “musical of the year,” this latest stage incarnation stars Eddie Mekka, best known as Carmine “The Big Ragoo” Ragusa from television’s Laverne & Shirley, as DJ Vince Fontaine. (Yeah, it took me a moment to remember him, too, and I even watched the series in its original broadcast run.) O f course, the rest of the gang’s all here, from leather-clad greaser stud Danny Zuko to virginal transplant student Sandy Olsson, knocked-up Betty Rizzo to just- plain-creepy Kenickie—and I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Frenchie. So are all of the deliciously cheesy song-and-dance numbers: “We Go Together,” “Greased Lightnin’” and “Hopelessly Devoted to You”—hand jives and drive-ins and poodle skirts meticulously recreated for your nostalgic pleasure. I’m likely the only person on the planet to not have a weak- kneed soft spot for Grease—but even I admit those “Summer Nights” sound awfully appealing right about (dreary) now. Go on, then. You know it’s the one that you want. Thurs.y Jan. 13, 7:30 p.m.; Keller Auditorium, 1111 SW Broadway; $31.75-$63; 503-248-4335, tick- etmaster.com orpcpa.com. —Amanda Schurr
