(9pm-close, Vault, 226 NW 12th RECESSION THEATER Ave, www.vault martini.com) Portland recessionistas will be out in force at Tin Pan Alley Theatre Company’s free—yes, absolutely free —performances of the gender-bend ing romp Triumph of Love through out the month of August. A musical adaptation ofMarivaux’s French Restoration play, Triumph tells the story of a princess who disguises herself as a man in order to infiltrate the compound of an exiled prince she has longed for from afar—one who’s secretly plotting to murder her and usurp her throne. The company’s decision to of fer the play for free marks a protest against the economic pitfalls of mod ern theater. “I t’s a simple idea, but one that we have strong faith in,” says Tin Pan Alley artistic director David Ru ben. “I have seen half a dozen of our Join the Bears at Three Friends Coffee. Late Awak enings is a support group for women who question their orientation or who come out and identify as lesbian later in life. That tends to be anywhere from 35 to 65, but anyone is welcome at any age.
