What exactly would you do with a piano? Sell it and buy a mutual fund? It doesn’t sound as though you need another one. The current administration would surely support your assumption that people who don’t make a lot of money don’t need money. Why raise the minimum wage? People who need or deserve to make money are already making it! It’s good that you feel creepy (your word was “guilty”) about trying to get your grandmother to change her will, taking money away from your brother. Your grand mother is entitled to leave her money to whomever she prefers, even if she likes Jacob best just because he’s queer. I am 25 years old, and I have a sister who is 15 years older. Both of us are the only openly GLBT family members. When I was growing up, she moved away and I didn’t speak to her for almost 10 years, but once 1 came out, I contacted her to let her know I cared and was a homosexual, too. That led to visiting and hanging out. Over the years she has borrowed money and not repaid it and has asked me for favors, including helping her move furniture, driving her around (she cannot drive due to her disability, obesity), etc. I was OK with it until it became a weekly or biweekly request. I finally told her that I couldn’t do it anymore; I am usually too exhausted from work. Since this happened, 1 have not heard from her other than one text message last week, asking for my help again. 1 did not respond. I feel as if I am being very selfish and ignorant. I understand that she has some disabilities and because of this does not have a large income, but nor do I. She could be capable of taking buses, but she won’t. Am I wrong for ignoring her? Or is her constant asking for help wrong? I want to be there for her; I only have few siblings left, but I am unwilling to just continue to feel used and thrown away like a dirty cum rag. 1 have let go of her repaying money to me and don’t care about the past, but 1 do want a good future with my sister, because of that special “gay" bond. Maybe she'll be able to hear you. She may be someone who is not capable of bonding in the way that you’d like. It sounds like she may have a disability in addition to obesity. Maybe if you get to know her better, you’ll be able to relate to her in spite of it. Or maybe you’ll be able to help her once in a while, without getting sucked into weekly obligations. If you continue to feel used and don’t want to drive her around at all, it doesn’t mean you’re selfish or ignorant. It may just mean neither genetics nor queemess is enough glue to hold the two of you together.
