y otcm Pride parties bring the fun by Jim Radosta Gaycation, an irregularly scheduled queer night at Holocene, kicks off Pride Weekend 9 p.m. June 15 at 1001 S.E. Morrison St. with special guest DJs “MEN,” aka JD Samson and Joanna Fateman of Le Tigre. Cover is $8. “We’re super excited to get to do another Gaycation for Pride,” says resident DJ Mr Charming, aka Mary McAllister, who will also be spinning along with DJ Snowtiger, aka Aubree Bernier Clark. “It just seemed like last year there was a huge lack of things for people to do that didn’t cost 15 bucks at the door, so we’re psyched to be able to have special guest DJs and the two of us. Should be a fun, fun time.” Hot Flash, which normally caters to “seasoned lesbians” 36 and older, invites women of all ages to celebrate after the Dyke March by attending the Retro Hot Hash Tea Dance from 5 to 9 p.m. June 16 at Barracuda, 9 N.W. Hot Flash’s sexy, fabulous monthly party for younger queer girls, Gimlets n’ Garters Cocktail Speakeasy, will wrap up its first season from 6 to IO p.m. June 15 at Fez Ballroom, 316 S.W. 11th Ave. Cover is $8. The event will feature showgirls, exotic dancers and one free drink. GnG will return in September. Pauline Miriam, Hot Flash Dance producer, looks forward to another year of service to the “seasoned lesbian” community. “My greatest pride," she says, “is having created a venue which serves four decades of lesbians and brings together women of totally diverse backgrounds. Stark St. This year’s theme is “Come Together.” Manager Jon Guidone promises, “This year will top all previous efforts,” because Boxxes is working with its new neighbors the Ace Hotel, Living Room Theaters, Clyde Commons and Stumptown Coffee. The Ace will be offering special weekend rates for those coming for the event and will be hosting a VIP section in its lobby, with Clyde Commons running the bar. Living Room Theaters will be jumping in, too, by opening its garage door and serving drinks and food while offering discounts and movie ticket giveaways. Boxxes, meanwhile, boasts “Portland’s greatest DJ lineup" with notable names such as DJs Tronic, Joey Cub, F.S.O., Dougalicious, Seth Hutton and Leonetti from the Sexy Crew along with a surprise guest or two. The headline entertainers will be club divas Suzanne Palmer with Debby Holiday. Go-go boys will be dancing all day long, and the cast from the D-Word, a weekly drag show, will perform a special little ditty. Cover is tentatively $5. Boxxes is also holding a special Pride edition of the D-Word at 10 p.m. June 13 with special guest Lawanda Jackson, one of the premier drag perform ers in the country. Admission is free. And you can kick off Pride Weekend with a slum ber party June 15 featuring go-go boys pillow-fighting on multiple beds throughout the club. (Fun, huh?) Cover is $3 with a stuffed animal donation to the Sweethearts of Portlands toy drive for Doembecher Childrens Hospital or $5 without.
