Typical har fixxl is well prepared and really hits the spot the morning after a party. The day 1 was there, copious sunlight poured in through luxurious Southern-exposure windows, and hy early afternoon the place was filling up fast with gregarious gays enjoying some hair of the dog and high-octane conversation. It was a pretty homogenous group, in terms of age, dress and physicality, hut then that’s doubtless part of the reason its regulars feel comfortable there. The 2006 Gay Games played on a screen above the gambling machines, providing me with a constant stream of images of brawny athletes oiling one another up and something 1 can only describe as drag queen water wrestling. Scandals throws an all-day brunch party every Sunday. My only complaint: What’s with not taking debit cards? I had to leave my barely touched liquid breakfast on the table and run across to Powell’s, only to find its ATM machine out of order. I ended up walking to Whole Foods, buying $25 worth of gnxreries and getting cash hack in order to avoid paying a couple of dollars in ATM fees, which may or may not be slightly ridiculous. But like the end of an adult fairy tale, my Bkxxly Mary and chicken tenders were waiting on the table when 1 got back, none the worse for the wait. —Tony LeTigre Latino Night with Meesha Peru.
