Lakewood Theatre Company presents The Lion in Winter, an ingenious drama pitting King Henry II against his strong- willed wife and their three heirs in a 12th century struggle for love and power, Jan. 13-Feb. 19. Northwest Classical Theatre Company presents The Mousetrap, Agatha Christie's classic mystery about a group of strangers stranded in a boarding house during a snowstorm, one of which is a murderer, through Jan. 14 at Shoebox Theater. This stock, acting-by-stage- directions production doesn't yield any clues to the dated script's original sense of suspense or intrigue, but the once-sporadic company has discovered a cozy new performance space on the inner eastside. This audience-pleasing diversion is not unlike a good winter squall: lots of voluble anticipation swirling around fluffy flakiness that dissipates in the light of day. Its undeniably fun concept could’ve been even cooler if the work of each director was as distinctively different as each playwright. That, and less shouting.
