In addition, ERA is hosting a Sock Hop and Barbecue at Station Place Towers, 1020 N.W. Ninth Ave. The event takes place from 5 to 10 p.m. Aug. 27. ERA is a coalition of organizations and individuals within the Portland metropolitan area that works to enhance the lives of older sexual minorities community members through education, advocacy, outreach and resource development. ERA trainings seek to increase sensitivity to the needs and concerns of the elder sexual minorities community by incorporating both academic materials and personal experiences in their presentations. ERA’s training curriculum is presented to college classes, social service agen cies, groups of long-term care providers or other groups upon request. ERA is a program of Friendly House Senior Services. April saw its first fund-raiser, which was well-attended and full of positive energy. SHARE will be con ducting an event orientation and planning meeting to begin preparing for next year’s “Shar ing an Evening for SHARE!” The meeting will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Aug. 21 at Data Sys tems Plaza, 975 S.E. Sandy Blvd. Several different volunteer opportunities are available, so there is certain to be an area that will interest you and your talents. Work groups include publications and marking, in-kind donations, décor, time management, sales and the main event. SHARE is also looking for a co-chair of the event to learn the ropes for 2007.
