The theme is “Life Is a Beach!” Bring your swimsuit, sun screen and sweetheart for a day of fun in the sun. The festivities will include music, entertainment, food, a beer garden, craft and mer chandise b<x)ths, community or ganizations and the ever-popular bachelor and bachelorette auction. The suggested donation for admittance to the Pride Festival is $5, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. V ancouver ’ s S aturday in the P ark P lanned for J uly 9 The 11 th annual Saturday in the Park, to be held from nixin to 5 p.m. July 9 at Esther Short Park in Vancouver, Wash., will be devoted to celebrating gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Pride. The event will be similar to previous years and will include live music and enter tainment, informa tion b<x)ths staffed by many organizations and agencies, retail booths with various Pride products, a fenced-off beer gar den, presentation of rhe Community Pride Award and a variety of guest speakers. Saturday in the Park 2005 will be attended by members of the queer and allied communities of Van couver, Portland and mral South west Washington. This is a free event. C entral O regonians C elebrate P ride Close to 100 Central Oregon ians celebrated Gay Pride Month at Bend’s first-ever public Pride event June 19. Representatives from the Human Dignity Coalition and Basic Rights Oregon were on hand distributing materials while friends and families from the communi ty enjoyed a potluck, games, music and even a traditional float down the Deschutes River. The event was covered by local media, including the kx?al television station, Central Oregonians at the first-ever Pride celebration in Bend which made it the top story (above and right) spent the day eating, hacky-sacking, hula during the evening news. hooping and rafting.
