Last year he co-founded the Denver Zine Library, which has brought him onto several radio shows, including NPR’s Weekend Edition. Eros magazine called Virago “the sex symbol laureate of the burgeoning West Coast trans rock music scene.” Her band, The Deadly Nightshades, is one of the hottest rising acts in the Bay Area. Virago is also co-director of TrannyFest, a film festival dedicated to support ing work made by and for transgender and genderqueer people. She is a founding member of the pilice accountability group TransAction, and she was the first trans woman to serve on the board of directors for San Francisco Women Against Rape. She also serves on the board of directors for the Transgender Law Center. In 2002 she was the grand marshal of the San Fran cisco Pride Parade along with trans erotic film director Christopher Lee. Kelly Shortandqueer and Shawna Virago will appear as part of the Tranny Roadshow, a variety extravaganza playing at SMYRC and Liberty Hall. T ranny R oadshow M aking T wo S tops in P ortland f The Tranny Roadshow is a multimedia per formance art extravaganza that is touring the country this spring. It is composed of an eclectic group of artists, each self-identified as trans gender, and includes poets, rappers, filmmakers, storytellers, hreakdancers, rock bands, comedi ans, actors, folk singers, photographers, zinesters and more. Stationary art (photography and sculpture) will he on display, hut most of the pre sentation is the live show, a unique variety show where the expression of gender and the expres sion of self are inseparable. The show is a fluid entity, changing to suit the artists and the crowd, but is always full of intelligence, fun and humor. Although the Tranny Roadshow is done entirely by trans peo ple, it is not exclusively for trans people. It is a raucous evening of entertainment, open and accessible to people of all backgrounds.
