Participants of the 26th annual Gay Softball World Series and members of the Portland gay community: My hope is that from opening ceremonies to the crowning of our champions in six divisions, you will enjoy the moment and have a blast. I am hopeful these days will leave you full of fond memories of new friends, great events and lots of great softball. W OW ! It’s here!!! You athletes have made it to a very special event, and all of us locals have a great week of fun and softball ahead. As the director of Series 2002, I am excited and greatly honored to welcome each and every player, coach and spectator to Portland. I 47 hope that you enjoy your stay and that as the champi onships are decided, you will have a great World Series experience to take home with you. It is a great privilege and it is with great pride and excitement that we, the Rose City Softball Association, welcome you as our guests for the 26th Gay Softball World Series from Aug. 19 to 25 in Portland, presented by Miller Lite. Roy Melani hits it out of the ballpark for Boxxes Storm There are so many people to thank for all the hard work and ded ication it takes to put on the kind of world-class event you will see here in Portland. First I want to thank the Series 2002 Com mittee for all their hours of blood, sweat and tears to make this event a great one: Tim Bias, Heath Britt, Lloyd Perry, Sarah Swanson,. Chris Potts, Noelle Buckley, Jae Larsen, Mike Audette, James Williamson, Don Goodlin, Lisa Parlsow, Toni Carr, Randy Wampler and Aaron Homstein. These individ uals have done an INCREDIBLE job. If you see them during the week, give them a pat on the back! Next I wanted to thank all of our sponsors for supporting every fabulous event we have planned for the week. I also would like to thank all of the 175 volunteers who have signed up to help run this event. My hat is off to PHOTO BY MARTY DAVIS I would be remiss if I did not remind us that this event will ben efit three local selected charities: Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Our House of Portland and Esther’s Pantry. Let’s sup port them well and enjoy all that Portland has to offer.
