The three-year grant will fund the position of a full-time executive director for the chorus. The award is historic, according to Ken Cole, executive director of the Gay and Lesbian Asso ciation of Choruses, an international associa tion representing more than 190 choruses and 10,000 singers. "We believe this is the largest single grant ever made to a gay and lesbian chorus,” he said. "We are very excited for the Portland Gay M en’s Chorus and the recognition this grant signifies.” The grant also is significant because it is the first award by the Meyer Memorial Trust to a gay-identified organization. “This is the first time we have made an award to an organization with the word ‘gay’ in their title,” said Victor Merced, Meyer Memori al Trust program officer. “We were very impressed by the mission and achievements of the Portland Gay M en’s Chorus, and we are pleased to extend to them this grant.” T he Meyer Memorial Trust is one of the largest foundations in the Pacific Northwest and ranks in the top 100 foundations in size nationally.
