Lambda Literary Awards finalists announced M en’s Science Fiction/Fantasy and Gay M en’s M ystery categories; and editor John Preston’s Personal Dispatches in Gay M en’s Nonfiction and the special AIDS category. Hidden From History, edited by Martin Du berm an, Martha Vicinus, and George Chauncy, placed in Gay M en’s Anthologies/ Collections as well as Lesbian Anthologies/ ambda Book Report has announced the Collections, and Twice Blessed, edited by finalists of the L am bda L iterary Christie Balka and Andy Rose, is a finalist in Aw ards 1990. The “Lammys,” recognizing both Lesbian Nonfiction and Gay M en’s excellence in gay and lesbian writing and Anthologies/Collections. publishing, are presented in 17 categories. Lee Lynch, Just Out’s Amazon Trail Nine authors received nominations in more columnist, has been nominated in the category than one category, including Hidden From of lesbian science fiction/fantasy for her novel History: Reclaiming the Gay and Lesbian Sue Slate: Private Eye. The Publishing Triangle, the Ferro- Grumely Foundation, and Vl'ords Project for AIDS will present cash and honorary awards for lifetime achievement, contemporary ficiton, and AIDS-related writing, respectively. The Publishing Triangle will present the Second Annual Whitehead Awards to a female recipient for lifetime achievement in the furtherance of gay and lesbian literature. Edmond White was their recipient last year. In honor and memory of authors and lovers Robert Ferro and Michael Grumley, the Ferro-G rum ley A w ards consist of two cash prizes — one for an outstanding work of fiction on lesbian life published in 1989 by an American author, and the other for an outstanding work of fiction on gay male life published in 1989 by an American author. The board of trustees o f the Ferro-Grumley Foundation will name recipients based on recommendations received by a Nominations Committee. Words Project for AIDS will also present two awards — one for an outstanding work addressing AIDS as it affects the individual, and one for an outstanding work addressing the effects of AIDS on society.
