f 4TH A N N U A L WOMEN £ WOODS IN THE C ertified outrageous Sue Fink a t PD ue Fink hasn’t always been a rock star. Fink’s Beverly Hills childhood included daily piano practice and family concerts with her two brothers in their group “ The FinkstonTrio.” Her edu cation included a degree in music (magna cum laude) from UCLA and graduate work at the same institution. During and after her university years, Fink taught school and toured the world singing with choral groups. She was a member of the California Chamber Singers which was sent by the State De partment on a thirteen-nation tour of the Orient. With the Roger Wagner Chorale, she toured Europe and North America. Underneath Fink's classical music training lay a passion to be a rock star. Song-writing became an obsession. At the same time, she began reading feminist lit erature and totally changed the direction of her musical career. Fink quit teaching and performing classical music. While traveling together, the two wrote “ Leap ing,’’ which both Fink and Meg Christian recorded for Olivia Records. Fink found a new outlet for her conduct ing talents by organizing the Los Angeles Women’s Community Chorus which quickly grew to more than a hundred mem bers and which performs songs by women about women and women’s issues. She also returned to school to study composi tion and arranging. At the same time she began writing, arranging and musical di rection with Los Angeles theatre groups. After touring with Meg Christian and recording an album with Diane Lindsay, Fink released her own First album, “ Big Promise,” in 1985. Her flamboyant personality combined with her inventive use of synthesizers and computer have earned Fink a wide following. She is now a “ certified outrageous” rock star.
