ue Fink hasn’t always been a rock
star. Fink’s Beverly Hills childhood
included daily piano practice and
family concerts with her two brothers in
their group “ The FinkstonTrio.” Her edu
cation included a degree in music (magna
cum laude) from UCLA and graduate
work at the same institution.
During and after her university years,
Fink taught school and toured the world
singing with choral groups. She was a
member of the California Chamber
Singers which was sent by the State De
partment on a thirteen-nation tour of the
Orient. With the Roger Wagner Chorale,
she toured Europe and North America.
Underneath Fink's classical music
training lay a passion to be a rock star.
Song-writing became an obsession. At the
same time, she began reading feminist lit
erature and totally changed the direction of
her musical career.
Fink quit teaching and performing
classical music. She teamed up with lyri

ERA fundraisers and festivals. While
traveling together, the two wrote “ Leap
ing,’’ which both Fink and Meg Christian
recorded for Olivia Records.
Fink found a new outlet for her conduct
ing talents by organizing the Los Angeles
Women’s Community Chorus which
quickly grew to more than a hundred mem
bers and which performs songs by women
about women and women’s issues. She
also returned to school to study composi
tion and arranging. At the same time she
began writing, arranging and musical di
rection with Los Angeles theatre groups.
After touring with Meg Christian and
recording an album with Diane Lindsay,
Fink released her own First album, “ Big
Promise,” in 1985. Her flamboyant
personality combined with her inventive
use of synthesizers and computer have
earned Fink a wide following. She is now a
“ certified outrageous” rock star.
