The Portland Chapter of NOW invites all supporters of reproductive rights to join us in this ceremony to remember our defeats and to celebrate our progress towards women's freedom. The music, events, and ceremonies of Martin Luther King Day serve as a backdrop for remembrance and reflections of the civil rights movement. McCutcheon was described by Johnny Cash as " . . . the most impressive instrumentalist I've ever heard." He is widely recognized as one of the world's finest hammer dulcimer players, as well as a virtuoso on all American folk instru ments. McCutcheon is also a strong and impressive singer. Prim ary Domain, 16th & Marshall. 25 • SUNDAY The Dance Brigade, a new group from Wallflower Order, w ill be appearing in Portland tonight at the Northwest Service Center at 7 :30 p.m. Tickets are on a slid ing scale: $6, $7, $8, based on ability to pay, and can be purchased in ad vance from A Woman's Place Bookstore, the Primary Domain, or at the door. After creating some of the most exciting dance in the United States, the Wallflower Order Dance Collective formed The Dance Brigade. Led by founding member of the Wallflower Order, Krissy Keefer, and nine-year member of the company, Nina Fichter, The Dance Brigade continues in the Wallflower tradition of creating eclectic dance form that moves from a sound foundation in classical and mod em dance technique to incorporate such stylistic influences as the Martial Arts, Sign Language, theatre and comedy. Primary to the work of the company is their ability to give expression to some of the most challenging social conditions and move ments of the day. Because of the popular nature of their dance style and thematic content, the company's performances appeal to a very broad audience and to sectors of the general population that do not ordinarily attend dance concerts. 29 • THURSDAY The Ten Percent Revue opens tonight, with a sparkling wine & cider reception following the show at 8:00 at the North west Service Center. 1819 NW Everett. Ten Percent Revue is a joyous affirmation of gay life and love that has been per formed to rave reviews across the country. Local guitarist, Kate Sullivan w ill open the show with new & old favorite original compositions. 24 • SATURDAY Defend Abortion Rights — End Right W ing Terrorism is the theme of this year's pro-choice rally commemorating the 14th anniversary of the Roe V. Wade Supreme Court Decision legalizing abor tion. The rally w ill start at 7 p.m. at the Northwest Service Center, 1819 NW Everett. The abortion rights movement has much to celebrate this year including the defeat of the anti-aboriton ballot measure, the granting of an injunction against clinic picketers, and the Supreme Court reaffirmations of the Roe v. Wade decisions. Despite these victories right wing terrorism continues, daily harass ment of women occurs outside clinics across the country and abortion still is in accessible to many poor and rural women. Speakers include keynote speaker and hispanic activist, Virgnia Lemus, Native American poet and activist Dian Million, Radical Women representative Adrian Weller, a representative from the Pro-Choice Coalition, a labor representa tive, and a teenager from Roosevelt High School.
