JACKSONVILLE POST Weaker Report • Following is the report of U. S. Vol unteer Cooperative Observer E Britt; Jacksonville, for month of October, Latitude 42 deg. 18. min. north; longi A weekly newspaper published every Saturday at the county seat of Jnck.W'O tude 123 deg. 5 min. west. Prectp. Date maximum L'initnum County, Oregon. 1 60 .07 44 2 5Ò 48 Tom Fulton, Editor. 3 75 41 44 4 76 SATURDAY. NOVEMBER 27. 1920 47 5 74 47 66 6 34 7 63 T 59 The editor of a certain Medford weekly occasionally re 8 46 44 61 9 fers to the editorial utterances of his paper as “ravings.” 10 48 65 T 48 59 Ravings is right. In commenting on the Jacksonville 11 .22 37 12 52 .05 50 32 banquet the brains of this great religious weekly was evi 13 .10 43 49 14 dently overcome by an unusually virulent attack of “rav 15 .10 53 37 .10 32 51 ing," as shown by the following sentences taken from the ie .37 52 «0 17 article in question: “Jacksonville has had a celebration 18 .64 47 32 .08 47 31 line unto a jollification of turkey buzzards who rejoice 19 0 34 50 44 over the finding of a discarded carcass.” And again, I 51 45 57 22 “The court house means a great deal to Jacksonville. 23 40 64 41 71 Some of her best citizens reside in the same yard with the 21 41 69 25 old building. Some of her people wax rich by virtue of JS 40 63 .05 42 ES 27 being able to accumulate the funds which the taxpayers 44 61 28 31 graciously bring then; way.” . This exhibition of petty 29 54 28 55 30 malice is too contemptible to be noticed were it not for 31 26 55 Official Paper of the City of Jacksonville Oregon the opportunity it offers to warn Medford that continued toleration of such utterances is not conducive to good feeling between the two towns. The assertion that some of our citizens accumulate riches at the expense of the taxpayer is as false as it is ridiculous. And, speaking of the court house and its environments, it may not be amiss to remind our esteemed contemp. that “in the same yard with the old building” there is a commodious padded cell maintained for the accommodation of people addicted to the habit of “raving.” In one paragraph Jacksonville is described as a rather unusual creature that will settle down in the shadow of its own ruins, fold its wings and swat Hies—manifestly an impossible feat for an ordinary biped to perform. However, the fly-swat ting problem should present no difficulty to the editor of the Medford paper. Classifying him by his bray, he should be able to settle down any old place, fold all four legs and swat flies with his ears.
