Among other things he stated that the construction of such a road would cause the expen diture of more than a million dollars and the ultimate result wou'd be to in crease our population to at least 2500 people. The doctor spoke of millions as most of us are accustomed to speak of dol lars, he wound up his address by show ing how the building of the road could be brought about, stating that if the people of this city would secure the necessary rights of way, John R. Al len would furnish the money and build the road. Mr. Allen stated thatthough the statement by Mr. Reddy was un premeditated, he would accept the pro position and build the road. On motion the chairman was instruct ed to appoint a committee of ten persons to make a canvas of the property owners along the probable route of the road from the top of J acksonville hili to Joe Bar, and if possible secure the necessary rights of way. This was the first opportunity many of our citizens have had of meeting Mr. Allen and all were favorably im pressed by his manner, quiet, unas suming, and courteous; the bearing of a man of business able and willing to make good any promises which he may make. / Infants’, Children’s, Ladies’ and Gent’s ALL PRICES » ULRICH n Ji ROS., Correspondence to The Post.
