FEBRUARY 17, 1!)0S. NO. 281 SUVtVQRS FROM WRECK REACH SHORE Three Men From Emily " Reed Reach North Bay After 200 Mile Trip In Open Boat. TACOMA, Feb. 17. A dispatch to the News from TatooBh light reports that a boat reached there tltis morning containing the first mate and two sail ors from the Emily Heed, wrecked in Tillamook Friday morning. The sur vivors brought the body of the cook, who died yesterday morning. The names of the rescued who are at Noah Hay are: First Mate Fred Zuhe, Seaman Arthur .lantuke and Eauld Ab olstedt. The name of the cook is not known. The Emily' Heed was wrecked off the : Tillamook coast, almost JU' miles south i of where the survivors landed today. ( They rowed along the coast in open life ? boats, and at one place off the Wash ington coast were nearly blown ashore. The survivors were without water or provisions. The cook died from ex posure. revenue cutter will leave here for Xeah Hay this afternoon to return with the survivorH and with the body of the cook. Harris of Hutte Falls arrived in Med ford Saturday and reports that there is considerable building in Hutte Falls. NEW YORK, Feb. 17. Charles W. Morse, the former banker nnd promo ter, wits arraigned in Justice Dowl ine's court on two charges of grand I larceny for misappropriation of the funds or the .Mercantile .National bank. He pleaded not guilty and asked the postponement of trial with permission to chance his plea if ho desired it. The court fixed the hearing for next Mon day. NEGRO MURDERER AT TACOMA CONFESSES TACOMA, Feb. 17. Ilayden Peoples, colored, who was arrested several days ago for the murder of Henry Seyfried, a saloonkeeper at St. Joseph, Mil, May 3, 1904, broke down and confessed last night when confronted by the St. Jo seph officers. Reports received from Armenia state that all the Turk ish army reserves in Van, Mush and other villages of Asia Minor have been called to colors and aro departing rap idly for the frontier. At the same time, the league of the Turkish revolutionary party is increas ing the revolutionary agitation. An ap peal proclamation has been issued ex horting the public to protest against the warlike plans of the sultan. The league holds that the war will be dis astrous, owing to a famine in Asia Mi nor. Knssian military authorities have or dered all horses in the Caucasus fit for military service to be registered. CRIMINAL ACTIONS AGAINST HARRIMAN RAILROAD LINES WASHINGTON, Feb. 17. The fed era! government, in the legal warfare which is being waged against the Har rinniii railroad interests, announced that criminal actions will shortly be begun in Oregon, California and other states against the Southern Pacific for al leged granting of rebates which may reach $.")iio,ooii in amount. This action had already been outlined in Cnited Cress newspapers. Coincident with this move comes the information that the federal govern meat's recent investigation has stirred the California state commission into ac tivity, and acting under the direction of the attorney-general of California it has begun an impiiry to punish the Southern Cacifie for additional rebate offenses the interstate commerce com mission discovered but cannot reach because they were granted wholly with in t he state of California and did not apply to interstate traffic. The only excursion to leave Oregon this vear for California, and the only excursion that ever left from a city the size of Medford, consisting of 40 people, all residents of the Rogue River valley, left Sunday morning for the Golden State in two sjecial cars, where they will spend a month seeing the wonders of the southland. Owing to the brief stop made by the train at Medford, the cars were not de orated with banners until Ashland was reached. Here big signs were hung on ihe cars, heralding the identity of the excursionists to the world. Several hundred of the Tribune 's Horticultural number 'were taken aboard to distribute in California, so t hat orange growers can learn about a count rv more wonderful than their own. Agent A. S. Since then a gasoline motor has been operated, but it is inadequate to handle the passen ger traffic, which is increasing rapidly. A boom is on at Hutte Falls, and the Hummer will see lively times. Fdgar Hafer, one of tho owners of the road, left. Monday on a trip to the timber belt. He states that a now sur vey has been made which gives the road a gravity grade from the timber to Mcdlont. Randolph, treasurer of the Kdi son Manufacturing company, of which I nomas Alva hdison is president, com mitted suicide in his cellar at his resi deuce today by shooting himself in the head. That the deed was deliberate is evidenced by letters loft by Randolph who is believed to have been tempo rarily insane. Thomas A. With a greafc roar, two brick dwelling houses on Pennsylvania avenue collapsed early to day, as the result of flood waters weak ening the foundations. A score of oc cupants were warned by cracking walls barely in time to escape before tho buildings fell. One man was injured. Tho other buildings nre being exam ined by authorities to determine their safety. The rivers are receding slow ly, but it is expected the river will bn below the danger mark this afternoon. The suffering of flood victims is in tense, owing to the cold weather. Tho damags is widespread.
