When Mark Twain was editing the Virginia City Enterprise, writing copy one liny and milling the next, lie tried many wayn to drive home the fact that "it. pays to advertise." One day he reeeived a letter fro ma subscriber Hay ing tint he had found a pirler pressed between the pages of i!h paper. lie wanted to know whether this signified tood or bad through the cms column as follows: "tild Subscriber. The finding of a Hinder in your copy of the Enterprise was mil her good hick nor bad. The spider wn merely looking over our pages lt find nut what, men-haul was iid advertising in them, so that he eotihl y in his web across the door and h ad a I - ee and mill in urbed existence fore vi r after. "Wait until the spring trade opens and tln-n I will advertise." Pro crastination i" not only a thief of time, but. it is a most lethal foe to business. The spring iuhIi never comes to the man who waits. If your business is dull, make it better by careful adver tising. The men who accomplish things in I hi 4 world are the men who1 do it now. When the successful business man finds trade dull he makes use of his time in thinking up a line of catehv ads. Many t hi tigs that t he passenger would never think of have been oro end onvided by the companv. Outside of the entertainment to be offered the excur sionists at every point on their long journey, the appointments of the train are such that royalty itself could not excel it in luxury. The value of the palatial Pullman cars that will carry the excursion is very large. They are of the must mod ern and comfortable pattern. The money value represented by the train of cars is over $L'ilj,iJfm. Fare for the trip will cost the travelers $UU, ii, but it is estimated they will spend outside of this figure on the average floii each while away, making $3I,immi additional. The special telephone sys tem installed in the (rain for the con venience of passengers represents a value of $.-)0(. There will be a $1(100 automat ic piano on board. These fig arcs do not include the wages of the i peopie on oonni i no j ram, whose only duty it will be to look after the comfort of the guests of the Southern Pacific, nor the engine crews that will haul the train on its way outh. Find for the locomotives and cost of oper ation are not included in the above fig ures, so that the amount of money rep resented in t his excursion from Spo hane to Eos Angeles will total an enor mous su.
