Thkrk are several sovereigns over hi re who are anxious to get a good swift kick at Prince Henry, who has been abusing Wilhelmina. A wkstern judge has decided that sausage is not sausage unless it is in links. We may yet have to admit that the color of the hair makes the dog. find it extremely difficult to make their scbomen work. A i.l. this row about the altitude of European nations, Germany and England in particular, toward the United State at the time of the Spanish war, seems to be n big waste of breath and ink. There was no attempt intuie to coeice this government and if there had been it is extremely doubtful if Unci Sam would have stood for it, Dewe; indicated pretty strongly to the German commander at Mani what would happen to anyone who interfered. It really doesn't mak any difference now whether Ger many stood on our side all the way through, or climbed into the band wagon at the last moment. That must be a pleas ant place for the man who-e bills come by the po't. Great Britain and the United States have exchanged places in one respect. Wh le the former is piling up a war debt the latter is cutting one down. No request has yet been received in this country for the appoint stent of representatives to attend tho coronation of King Alfonso at Madrid next May. There is no assurance that America is not absorbing the usual quota of anarchists into its popu lation every time a shipload of im migrants reaches our shores. - The European nations now s'.riv- irjg to prove how much they love lis would probably be less dentin . ttrative if they knew how deter mined we are to remain single. i.,3isHo'i' Fowler lias told the min isters of the Methodist Episcopal Colored Church to cut all the big words out of their sermons. Wouldn't it be a good idea for ;the Democratic party to stop shout jug about the nefarious methods and policies jf the Republicans, and devise a remedy for some of the things which need it. IssueB, other than the time-honored one of lieing "forninst the government," .would not be out of place in toe platform. Thkrk are numerous candidates scattered over the county for nomi nations at the hands of the Republi can convention; also a good many Democrats appear to be willing to sacrifice themselves for the good of the country. But there is a notice aoie lacs ot enthusiasm anions Democratic candidates for sheriff when it is mentioned that Alex Orme will likely be the Republican nominee. They have no overiveon iog desire to go up against Alex and we rather think they are right Sheriff Orme has made an efficient painstaking, accommodating official and baa" earned- the respect and good wi!l of a majority of the people of the county irrespective of politics. and The Mail doesn't see any reason why he shouldn't be retained in bis position if he wants it. By tbe-wny, we wish to remark that this item is entirely unsolicited and is prompted entirely by our personal friendship for Sheriff Orme, and the desire to see good, competent men retained in county offices. Toe wonderful turnings, twist lugs, aud doublings of the railroad bring in'.o view a grand array of tower ing mountains and profound gorges into which we eaze from dizzy heights, forest clad mountain slopes stretching up tn the line of perpetual snow, and the foiming mountain streams dahlnsr fiercely down deep canyonb, now and then stopping for a short rest in some quiet pool. Mr. Falkeuburg was next introduced and entertained the audience with a powerful and eloquent address on fra teinalistn. The lecture was one of the best and most convincing which has ever been delivered in Meuford, and demonstrated the benefit of .rnternitv aud frateruul organizations In a man ner which left no room for argument. Mr. Falkenburg has full control of his subject and his worda carried thu weight nd conviction that only truly earnest utterances can. M. F. After the conclusion of Mr. Falken- burg's address the Woodmen and their wives adjourned to the banquet hall, here a bountiful spread bad been pre pared by members of Chrysanthemum Circle, Women of Woodcraft, to which full justice was done by the banqueters Some time was spent In social converse and the discussion of the appetizing viands placed before them, when the gatberiug broke tip and all wended their way homeward, with a lively re membrance, which it will take no Utile length of lime to eradicate, of the pleas ant ana instructive evening they hud enjoyed.
