" Working Fpr tho Quocn or England. :The absence cf Queen Victoria in Thr mce has spared her tho pain of rcaCiirj In the London newspaperj tho un;rr.-.te-ful declaration of a men employed as Carter on her Windsor rrivato estate. The man was defendant in a civil action Involving tho payment of money nnd pleaded poverty. Tho queen,, ho said, paid no better than other people, nnd her people had to work harder. His waes were 10 shilling a week nnd lodgings found, which did not leave him much to tparo after feeding himself. "Ah," said the inagistrato trying the aaso, "yon should think of tho honor." The defendant sturdily replied, to tho amazement of the court, that there wasn't much honor to bo got out of 10 shillings a week. It would seem from this case that the queen pays her farm laborers and work men generally on her private estate from 9 to 4 shillings a week less than tho aver age wages in the district, which is not at all surprising to those who know her frugal, not to say parsimonious mind. She would not in any case rend the in dignant comments of the radical prcs3, because she reads only tho Tory Times, Morning Post nnd Whig Daily Telegraph when at home, and not ono of these would venturo to hurt her feelings by referring to such a matter. During her tay abroaa she sees only Tho Times, which of course is absolutely safe read ing. London Cor. New York Sun. Not Away Lone. Mrs. Simpson You say her husband ran away with the hired girl?
