This romantic comedy is set in a laundromat just after midnight on New Year’s Eve. Showtimes are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at EORT’s theater space, 2101 Main St., Baker City. Tickets are $15 adults, $13 EORT members, $8 students. These are available at Betty’s Books, at www.easternoregonre- gionaltheatre.com, and at the door. Two exhibits open Friday at Art Center East LA GRANDE — Art Center East presents “Farmers Markets in Fiber,” the fourth-annual Fiber Arts & Jewelry Exhibit. The show opens with a reception at 6 p.m. Jan. 31. Admission is free. Sponsored by the La Grande Quilt Shop, the exhibit will be on display until March 28. The exhibit invited artists to use photographs taken at regional farmers markets as a springboard to create new works in fiber. Each artist selected one inspiring image, interpreting its colors, textures and subject through the lens of their chosen medium. Viewers get a glimpse into the creative process — as the photograph and the finished piece will be displayed side by side. In ACE’s Co-op Gallery, “New Works by Damian Garcia” also opens Friday with a 6 p.m. recep- tion. Garcia is an emerging artist from Los Angeles who recently relocated to his home state after studying art at Eastern Oregon University. His work focuses on layered images using ballpoint pen and acrylic paint on wood panels. The exhibit will be on display through March 28. ACE’s exhibits are free and open to the public. for Feb. 1 from 5 p.m. to close. The event is family-friendly and admis- sion is free. There will be new Side A beer releases, games, a beer naming contest and more. Side A is at 1219 Washington Ave., La Grande. Pasta fundraiser supports historic theater project BAKER CITY — Pasta night at the Geiser Grand Hotel on Feb. 5 will benefit the Baker Orpheum Theatre project, which is working to renovate a historic theater space on Main Street in Baker City. Cost is $21, with 20% of revenue going to the theater. Dinner will be served 5-9 p.m. at the Geiser Grande, 1996 Main St. Elwood schedules tour stop in La Grande LA GRANDE — Northeast Oregon’s own Elwood will play 7:30-9:30 p.m. Friday at Side A Brewing, 1219 Washington Ave., La Grande. Learn the art of Celtic Knots Feb. 6 BAKER CITY — Ginger Rembold will teach “Celtic Knots -— Circle Designs” in a one-night workshop on Feb. 6 from 6-8 p.m. at Crossroads Carnegie Art Center, 2020 Auburn Ave., Baker City. Students will learn how to create Celtic knotwork designs using grids and dots as a guide. The process taught in this class is said to be fairly simple with great results. Use it to make personalized cards or posters or as a meditative practice. Cost is $10 members or $15 for nonmembers. The class if open to ages 12 to adult. Mark your calendars for A Night at Old Auburn BAKER CITY — Join the Friends of the Baker Heritage Museum for its annual casino- style fundraiser “A Night at Old Auburn” from 6-10 p.m. Feb. 29. The museum is at 2480 Grove St., Baker City. The evening includes dinner, dancing with Baker Allstar, casino games, bingo and a “Roaring Twen- ties” costume contest. All proceeds will benefit the historic Baker Heritage Museum. Tickets are $35 per person with dinner, or $10 without dinner. Intermediate watercolor taught Saturday LA GRANDE — Jan Clark will teach an intermediate watercolor class on Feb. 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Art Center East, 1006 Penn Ave., La Grande. This class is a follow-up to the be- ginning watercolor class but is open to everyone. Participants will be painting bright California poppies and learn new brush techniques and how to use masking fluid in different ways. This class is for ages 15 to adult. Poet Chad Sweeney reads Feb. 4 at EOU LA GRANDE — Eastern Oregon University’s Carl and Sandra Ellston Ars Poetica Literary Read- ing Series returns Feb. 4, featuring award-winning poet Chad Swee- ney. Sweeney will read selections from his work beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Pierce Library on the EOU campus in La Grande. Sweeney is an associate profes- sor of English and creative writing at California State University-San Bernardino. His “Little Million Doors: An Elegy” won the 2019 Nightboat Poetry Prize. Sweeney writes of the collection, “I merely write perceptions, compo- sitions in motion, textures, con- trasts, distances, sounds, frames, traceries, and scatterings as if the world were a cubist painting or sculpture garden.” Sweeney’s reading is free and open to the public. Copies of his books will be available for purchase and signing after the reading. Abstract painting classes offered in February BAKER CITY — Hillery Lay will be teaching a beginning abstract painting class Feb. 14 and 15 at Crossroads Carnegie Art Center, 2020 Auburn Ave., Baker City. Students age 21 and older can choose one of the two nights. Each session is 6-8 p.m. and costs $16 members, $24 nonmembers. There is also a $14 supply fee.
