December Exhibits Main & Co-Op Gallery Exhibit The Big: ACE Annual Open Exhibit December 6, 2019 - January 25, 2020 Opening Reception: December 6 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Free Admission We know that the Grande Ronde Valley is home to a vibrant community of artists. In homage to the wealth of talent that makes our little city so “La Grande,” The Big is an annual showcase of local artworks in all mediums. Music & Dance Contra Dance (Age 12+) December 3 from 7:00 - 8:30 pm 1st Tuesday of the month is contra dance night at Art Center East. Contra dancing is an American folk original where you and your partner dance a repeating pattern to energetic music, interacting with the other dancers as you go. This exhilarating form accommodates all experi- ence levels. Drop-ins welcome & no partner needed. Comfortable clothes and low heeled shoes recommend- ed. Please enter through the Penn Avenue door. Teaching Artist: Mark Lewis Cost: $5 Country Dance Fiddle Orchestra (Ages 8+) December 3 & 17 from 6:00 - 7:00 pm Enjoy playing your bowed, plucked or wind instrument while you expand your individual and ensemble skills in this fun and education musical group. The Coun- try Dance Fiddle Orchestra is open to musicians of all skill levels, 8 years old and up, who play a repertoire of traditional and contemporary fiddle tunes from a wide variety of folk-based musical traditions. Under the guid- ance of our experienced leader, members are encouraged to grow their skills at sight reading and playing by ear. Please enter through the Penn Avenue door. Teaching Artist: Carla Arnold Cost: Suggested $5 donation Holiday Music Festival (All Ages) December 7 at 7:30 pm -or- December 8 at 3:00 pm Now in its 28th year, Eastern Oregon University’s Holi- day Music Festival features more than 200 local perform- ers, including ACE’s Grande Ronde Community Choir, Community Band Northeast, the Grande Ronde Sym- phony Orchestra, EOU Chamber Choir, EOU’s 45th Par- allel and other campus ensembles such as EOU’s African Drumming group and Fiddle Ensemble. This communi- ty-wide festival is a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season! Be sure to purchase tickets in advance for both shows, as they sell out every year. Tickets are available at the EOU Bookstore and Red Cross Drugs. Concerts take place in Loso Hall, McKenzie Theater, on Eastern Oregon University Campus. Carols & Cocoa (All Ages) December 12 from 6:00 - 9:30 pm ACE and Studio Della Bella Voce invite you to the 4th annual community caroling event! We will gather at Art Center East and then head out together to carol among the streets of La Grande. Cookies and hot cocoa bar back at ACE when we are done. Teaching Artist: Mark Lewis Cost: $5 Art Classes Fused Glass Bottle Stopper (Age 16+) December 1 from 1:00 - 3:30 pm -or- December 12 from 6:00 - 8:30 pm Pine Needle Coil Basket Weaving starts December 9 Create a bottle stopper out of glass in this make-&-take class. Working with a wide palette of sheet glass col- ors and pre-designed part sheets, you’ll plan, cut, and assemble a kiln-formed glass piece to place on top of a bottle stopper fitting. Your piece will be available for pickup 3-4 days later, once it’s been fired and cooled in the kiln. Please enter through the 5th Street door. This class is a great opportunity to explore materials and make messes without having to clean your dining table! Designed for children ages 2-6 and their caregivers. Teaching Artist: Amanda Welch Cost: $35 Member / $45 Non-Member Fine-Tune Your Pottery (Age 14+) Track 1: December 2, 9, 16 & 23 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm -or- Track 2: Dec 4, 11, 18 & 19 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm This workshop is for students who would like to explore specific pottery forms, throwing and glazing techniques, as well as sharpen their overall ceramic skills. Students may come with any level of prior experience. The instructor will guide each individual student through projects of their choice, helping them to effectively plan & execute their vision.
