A day celebrating the fall colors is planned for Oct. 11. Round-trip rides will leave from McEwen Station at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The cost is $24 adults, $20 seniors and military, $14 age 5-17, and free for age 4 and younger. A family pass for two adults and two children is available for $60. A more extensive experience is Photographer’s Weekend Oct. 12 and 13. Visitors can choose to at- tend one or both days. Each begins with a continental breakfast at 6 a.m. The train departs from McEwen Station at 7 a.m. and returns in late afternoon. Lunch is served at the Sumpter Depot. Each day-long excursion includes multiple stops for people to disem- bark the train and walk around for the best vantage points of the OCTOBER 11-17 ELTRYM HISTORIC THEATER train and fall colors. Fall is fi nicky weather, so riders are encouraged to dress in layers and wear sturdy shoes for walking on uneven ter- rain. Cost is $125 for one day, or $185 for both days. In late October, the train turns into the Halloween Express. On Oct. 26, it departs from McEwen Station at 4 p.m. Departure on Oct. 27 is at 1 p.m. Halloween costumes are encouraged. “It’ll be a little darker, which will be cool and spooky,” Kim Svaty, depot manager, said of the 4 p.m. train. Riders will be treated to hot cider and treats at the Sumpter Depot. There will be time to take a short walk to the Sumpter Valley Dredge, where there will be a trunk-or-treat event and haunted tour of the historic dredge. The Halloween Express trains are priced at $24 adults, $20 seniors/military, $14 youth, and $60 for a family of four. After October ends, the train takes a break until December. Christmas trains are scheduled for Dec. 14 and 15. The cost is $24 adults, $20 seniors/military, $14 youth, and $60 family.
