Holmes Mrs. Evelyn R. Gooderham of La Grande, and Donald N. Gray, of Pendleton, are announcing the engagement of their daughter, Cove Grange Adds 2 New Members Mt. Fannie Grange held their annual business meeting recent ly, at their hall near Cove. Ed ward Bloom and Russell Waitc, became memers of the farm or der. s Past Master, Ralph Comsioek, presided for the evening. A so cial hour followed, with coffee and pie being served in the din ing room. The Home Ec Club will meet at Ihe Grange hall Tuesday, Aug. 12, with Mrs. Ray Hartley pre siding. The booth at the Coun ty Fair will be the main order of business. This is a no-host meeting with potluck refresh ments to be served. Sunday, Aug. 10, at 1 p.m., the members of Ml. Fannie Grange and their families and friends will hold a picnic at the Ascension grounds near Cove. Thai's what it all boils down to, when you review the highlights of the fall and winter collections from the designers who finished their Paris showings this week. They replaced the sack with curves, left legs on display and brought back the waistline, al though most of them raised it from its normal anatomical loca tion. Two designers pulled a couple of big surprises. The House of Dior dropped hemlines 14 to 15 inches from the floor, well below what most other designers showed. And Balenciaga, rated by a lot of fashion critics as one of Paris' "greats," clung to the chemise style silhouette. That is what the buyers reported after this show; reporters won't get a peck until later this month. Most of the accent on curves is at the bust and neckline. Not to be overlooked in all the hemline-waistline talk, is the news in fabrics. For daytime their bulk is outstanding tweeds which look an inch thick; lacy, airy mo hairs;, textured woolens .of all kinds. Most patterns are small and subtle: I could count on one hand the big splashy plaids in the Grande. o Leslie Martin has resigned as the science arid math teacher of the Imbler school. He will leach this coming year in a Clackamas County school. Fabrics for evening are so ex travagant it would take a sultan to afford some of the dresses. They include heavy silk crepes, satins, brocades, cut velvets, printed failles, and chiffon. Not satisfied with the lustiness of fab ric itself, designers encrust them all over with many colored gems. Dior stressed black as the most important color for the new sea son, and it was a heavy favorite with other designers. But, through out there was a generous sprin kling of all the reds and pinks, the mauve and purple tones, many blues and some greens ond browns. The Hutchison ancestors are of Ihe McGregor Clan of Scotland. A crest of the McGreg or clan was on display along witli I wo scotch dolls and neckties of the McGregor plaid. A newspa per of the Hutchison clan news was also shown. A meeting was held after a potluck dinner and a program was given, and games played. Al the close of the meeting home made ice cream and n cake dec orated for the.occasion were serv ed. Betty DeLong baked the cake. Rose Wheeler Makes Spring Honor Roll OREGON STATE COLLEGE Rose L. Wheeler of La Grande, is listed on the spring term scholas tic honor roll at Oregon State college. To be eligible for honor roll listing, students' must make at least a 3.5 grade average for the term 4 points representing slraight-A. Miss Wheeler is majoring in business and technology at OSC. Six. Af(er the open ing of his gifts the guests were entertained by playing games and contests for which prizes were warded to the following, Eddie Potter, Jeff Wolfe, and Kenneth Murphy. Refreshments were served from a decorated table with place cards, ukI the traditional birthday cake decorated lo represent a clown. The guests sang "Happy Birthday" for Kenny. Refreshments were .served by his mother and grand mother, Mrs. Rebecca Kochens-parger. 10 Boy Scouts To Take Hike Troop 113 of Ihe Boy Scouts, sponsored by the LDS Church, will take a wilderness hike. There will be 10 boys leave Mon day for a five-day exploration Irip in the Wallowa Mountains. They will start hik'ing from Lap Over on the Lostine River and hike from there to the following; John Hcncry Lake, Bear Lake, Norih Minam Meadows, Big Min am, Little Minam, and to Moss Springs, above Cove, where they will be picked up by cars. The hike will be a 35 mile hike and will start Aug. 11 and end, Aug. 15. The boys planning to go are: Eugene Ilibberl, Howard Perry, Bob Klomp, Denny Waile, Steven Waite, Grant Waile, Steven Ne beker, Richard Waite, Ivan Ilib berl and Milo Ilibberl.
