fern office building, probably about
tix floors In height, of the type
that would be used as a profes
sional building in a medium-sized
i American city.
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. CORRIDOR OF THE
PROFESSIONAL BUILDING
MEDIUM SHOT
,We arc shooting down a corridor
lot the building. On both sides
'of the corridor are frosted gloss
j doors leading to the suites of
various doctors. In the immediate
(foreground there is a door on

This door is closed, but nftcr a
few moments it is opened cau
tiously a couple of inches and
Corliss peers out furtively, her
eyej round with excitement. Very
gingerly she sticks her head
around the door and looks up
and down the corridor.
REVERSE
Corliss emerges still further to
peer up and down the corrli',."'.
She keeps one hand on the door
of the omce. f rom behind her
a woman of about 40, neatly and
even smartly dressed, is Just cri
lng ?ut of a dentist's office. This
is MRS. WILCOX, an acquaint
ance of tho Archers'.
MRS. WILCOX: Oh, hello, Cor-
lissl
CLOSE SHOT CORLISS AND
MRS. WILCOX
C'oillss recognizes Mrs. Wilcox
with a guilty start.
CORLISS: (flustwod) Oh, hello,
Mrs. Wilcox.
Mrs. Wilv'ox has seen the sign on
Doctor 'abllng'ti office and raises
her eyebrows In eloquent surprise,
Corliss, noting this, hastily pre
tends to have been on the point
of entering this office by mistake
instead of leaving it.
CORLISS: Oh, golly look at
me! This must be the wrong
office!
MRS. WILCOX: (smiling) I
think so, dear. An obstetrician
is a sort of baby doctor.
CORLISS: Can you imogine!
She closes Fabllng's door, and the
CAMERA PANS her over to the
next door which bears the sign
"ELLWOOD P. RUSSELL, OR
THODONTIST." She starts to
open the door but Mrs. Wilcox
engages her in conversation.
MRS. WILCOX: What do you
hear from Lenny?
CORLISS: Oh, he's In the South
Pacific now somewhere. But I
don't know for sure just whore
ho Is. Wo haven't had any
V-mail for several weeks.
MRS. WILCOX (reassuringly)
Oh, well, I guess thoy keep
those young llycrs very busy,
(starting to move away) Say
hello to your mother for me,
Corliss.
CORLISS: You bet, Mrs. Wilcox.
For Mrs. WIIcox'b benoflt, she
goes into the dentist's office, clos
ing the door behind her. I he
CAMERA STAYS ON Mrs. Wil
cox who pauses for a few mo
ments, a faintly skeptical expres
sion on her face. She glances
again at Fabllng's door, and It is
obvious that she is not entirely
satisfied Hint Corliss was really
going to the wrong office. The
CAMERA PANS her down the
corridor and just around u corner.
Hero she pauses, hidden from
sight, but In a position where she
can peek down the corridor.
CLOSE SHOT
TJie door of Dr. Russell's office
opens. Corliss pecks out. No
one appears to bo in sight. She
darts hastily back to Dr. Fabling'u
office and lets herself In.
CLOSE SHOT MRS. WILCOX
She has obviously seen this ma
neuver and her worst suspicions
are confirmed. She steps into a
nearby elevator, practically
smacking her lips with the antici
pation of this juicy bit of gossip.
CUT TOl
DOCTOR FABLING'S OFFICE
The door opens again. Corliss
pecks out. Thero is still no one
in sight. Corliss opens the door a
little wid'ir and beckons peremp
torily. She is joined in the door
way by Mildred ond the two girls
scuttle down the corridor in thfr
direction of the elevators.
REVERSE
In the f.g. is the door of another
office with the sign: "GEORGE
H. WALLACE, DENTAL SUR
GEON." In the b.g. the two girls
are approaching the Camera. Dr.
Wallace's door opens, and Mr.
Prlngle is seen emerging. The girls
duck hastily down nearby stairs.
CUT to:
CLOSE SHOT STAIRS
CORLISS AND MILDRED
The two girls pause at an anglo In
the stairs to confer in excited
whispers.
MILDRED: (anxiously) Do you
think my father saw us?
CORLISS: No, I'm sure Jie
didn't but, oh, boy, it wn it
narrow squeak!
MILDRED: (sighing) Oh, rtear,
I hate this secrecy!
CORLISS: Oh, I don't Imow I.
think it's rather fun.
MILDRED: (gloomily) You
wouldn't think it was lun If you
could hear tho way my father
still rants about that fight ha
hod with your father.
CORLISS: (wearily) Golly, par
ents arc so childish! I moen,
that was over two months ago.
MlUJItED: (morosely) Yes.
But Father's still going to tho
dentist. (Improsslvfly) Four
teeth completely shot)
CORLISS: (not without pride)
Tile trouble with Daddy is that
he doesn't know ills own
strength.
