Luzon Jim Head used to hunt with falcons in Sau di Arabia. Now he hunts with war dogs on Luzon. And this time it's not birds he's hunting but Japs. I was chewing the rag with hi.n here. A German shcplurd named Captain lay under the col on w hich Head sat. Somebody toss ed a cigaret on Ihe floor without putting it out. Head spoke softly: "Cap tain!" The dog emerged and stood attentively. "Put out Ihe cigaret." said Head. Captni 1 sniffed and looked around, spotted the smokitg butt, slapped a paw on it, and the deed was done. Captain has other tricks, but lb-ad emphasizes that this stutf is cxtrncuiYiculnr and has noth ing to do v.ith the war-dog busi ness. Head Fir.il. Lieut. James S. Head, Car'yl.'. 111. is command ing officer of Ihe 2(ilh infantry scout dog plaloon. His outfit came overseas in June of '44 and saw action at Biak, Aitape anil Morotai bor'ore coming to Luzon, where it has been working with Ihe 25th or "Tropic Lightning" division around Balete Pass.
